ATTN: yogurt makers

11:37 AM, Wednesday, February 20, 2008 .. 8 comments .. Link
my family needs to make the transition from yoplait-thick custard (with lots of corn syrup) to a healthier yogurt.  eventually, I want to be making my own, but for now, I am buying from a goat dairy nearby.  I have strained it through cheesecloth, using the whey for smoothies, and the thicker creamy stuff I want available for them to eat like they do the yoplait stuff.  but is has that tangy yogurt taste, and I need to cover that.
so my question: how do you sweeten your homemade yogurts (or do you?)
do you add fresh fruits or jams or honey or other yummy things to convince your children to eat it?

thanks!

I make my own yogurt from time to time. We often flavor it with a Jello pudding mix - pistachio is our favorite! Other's we like are lemon, banana cream and vanilla. Sometimes, I just mix in some thawed frozen fruit and sweetener. Homemade yogurt is definitely different and I still buy yogurt from the store because I'm often too lazy to make it! Sad, I know!

I buy the full fat plain organic yogurt and usually sweeten it with stevia. I also sweeten it with all fruit jelly sometimes. You could even use sugar and it would still have less in it than the pre-sugared kinds.

You can add fruit or jam before serving. My favorite is to add a little powder sugar and vanilla...it is yummy! Blessings>faithfarm

I have for sometime made my own yogurt. Now we use powdered milk to make mine. It is easy as ever.. I use a thermos to culivate it and i have never had a problem with it turning out right. I do not flavor mine except for with fruit.. It is great and great for you..

Go to http://www.hillbillyhousewife.com/yogurt.htm she has a great recipe that is just like mine and she has a set of great instructions for a first time person..
Hope that helps

Hey!
I sweeten ours with honey and cinnamon. Sometimes I mix it with banana and peanut butter.
Have a great weekend.

When I made yogurt, I would sweeten it with honey and either fresh or canned fruit (home canned with honey). My oldest daughter was hyperactive (still is) and I tried to keep as little sugar from her as possible. They liked it (I don't like yogurt so I can't say what it tasted like).

This is a good question, I want to try making yogurt, but I like the taste of the store stuff, and really doubt that I will like the taste of homemade. So, I was happy to read some suggestions on here.
Thanks for stopping by my blog. You mentioned Welch folks in your area, where do you live? I understand that Wales is a beautiful place, I would love to visit there sometime!
I don't see a place to add you as a friend on your profile.
