And then some?
Whew!
We have thoroughly enjoyed this GORGEOUS day here south of the gnat line. This morning could have nearly been classified as sweater weather. It warmed up quickly though with some incredible blue skies!
Today was farm housekeeping day. We cleaned and sanitized all water vessels - meaning bleaching, scrubbing, hosing, scrubbing some more, rinsing and replenishing for the chicken flock, all the dogs and our herd of felines - despite the fact that they drink out of the pond and the creek, too.........bleh ~
Then it was to the rear pasture for cow patty collecting ~ Yee Haw!! Yep - there's nothing like shoveling cow "poo" to bring a person right down to earth - quickly! We are fortunate to have dairy cows that graze behind us and on the other side of our creek - as well as a LARGE beef herd that belongs to the farm across from us - we have tons of cow pies to choose from......what a luxury! We filled up six, five gallon buckets full of the good stuff and added it to our compost ~ it will really start cooking with all that "poo gold". Throughout the fall and winter months, we will collect as much of the "good stuff" as we can to start increasing our compost production. If you have farm neighbors who own cows, don't hesitate to ask if you can bring buckets and shovels and collect cow manure for your compost and garden; they usually don't mind and we consider it "free gold"!
Next was the chicken house - the roost was well overdue for raking out and rake out we did; completely. All that was added to the compost as well and it is full and ready to cook! We added all new fresh hay to the chicken house and now I'm "pooped" from working all the "poop"!
Check out my son's version of the day's events here.
And ~ believe it or not ~ we sold OUT of eggs today, too! Woo Hoo!
I hope everyone has an incredible weekend ~ Get outside and enjoy this fabulous weather!
