Life's Journey

• Friday, August 8, 2008 - This weeks happenings

This has been a week of activity.  Monday our woman's group served dinner at the homeless shelter in our town.  It really is so rewarding to help others.  After we visited with those that were there.  One mother of a 6 year old and twin one year olds was there because her husband abanoned her.  He was traveling to a new job location.  While she was on the road to meet him at their new location she broke down in our town.  She called her husband and he told her that he would rather her not come at all that he had been wanting to tell her that he had met someone else.  So she has been here for 2 months in the homeless shelter.  The worse thing is that she has no family.  I was just very appalled that someone would do this to their own kids.  I was talking to our pastors wife and we are going to try to get her back on her feet.  She isnt a christian so hopefully we can get her at least to come to church as well.  I am so glad we took time to help out Monday evening.  Sometimes we can get caught up in our own lives and forget to notice that others are hurting.

Tuesday I went grocery shopping.  I actually got to go without the kiddos.  A very good friend watched them for me.  It was so nice to be able to leisurely shop.  Wednesday I also got a break.  Another friend called and wanted us to go out for lunch.  My hubby was off and stayed with the kids.   Its always nice to have adult conversation with good friends without the interruptions of your children.  We decided that we must do this at least every few months.

Thursday was a typical day around the home.  We had school and got alot of cleaning done.  I also made  a double batch of laundry detergent.  We go through the laundry detergent so fast.  Today, I went for a haircut.  I took the kids and they behaved very good.  Of course I did bribe them before hand.   My three younger boys have been helping more around the house so they've started earning an allowance.  Since they are 4, 5, and 6 I started them out at $1 so if they were good they good go to the dollar tree and spend their dollar.  Bribes are good sometimes. LOL.  I got my haircut without having to worry about a sitter too, they behaved and got to spend their hard earned money.  LOL.   Creative parenting at its best. LOL.

It is so nice to be without the kid sometimes. I hope the allowance thing works for you.
