Homestead Wannabe

• 2006-Aug-31 - Okay, so I'm back...

Since the server at HSB is running like a snail I figured I'd come here and brag about the herd I'm raising.  It's been lots of hard work (I really didn't do a thing) from the birth until now....7 weeks old.  But, we're doing it.  Whew!!  We've circled the wagons, banded together as a family and everyone's committed....however my husband swears he's only committed for one more week.  At 8 weeks his back porch can no longer be Kitty Hotel because college football season is starting and that's where he likes to cheer his Auburn Tigers onto victory!!!

Having left the comfort of the Hotel Mama Kitty relaxes outside (really inside) on her barkerlounger......

While 3 of the original 4 baby kittens (one has found a home) recline on their lounger just next door to mom......

Here's the aerial view of the property......

So to save these precious ones from distinction (well, not really) please let me know if your precious little ones need one!!!!

IN HIM,
Julie

• 2006-Apr-7 - Our homesteading field trip and 2 questions

You've got to click over to my homeschool blog to see the great homestead we visited today.  It was inspiring!!!

Also, I'm thinking about getting a few chickens mainly for the eggs.  I've got to continue on our quest to eat better so....... any of you out there with coop wisdom, chicken wisdom or any of the such I NEED HELP.

Our lot is predominately shaded with some sunny spots.  They would not get sun all day.  I know nothing so any references to websites, homesteaders who know bunches or anythingof the like is welcome and appreciated.

Also, I know the Whisper Mill is very popular for grinding wheat.  I want to make a week's worth of bread at a time.  What mixer do you recommend?

So.....help me out.  Oh, and don't forget to check out today's blog entry at my homeschool site.

Merci!!!

• 2006-Mar-13 - simple living

I'm still convinced simple living involves a maid and a cook
however we recently found a little gadget that has made bathtime simplier.  Home Depot is where we got ours for about 9 and 20 bucks.

They mount with sticky tape and epoxy (sp??), set for 24 hours and "wala!"  No more tubs full of shampoo.

• 2006-Feb-12 - Homestead Wannabe

I've decided, admittedly, I think I want friends that homestead (live on farm, ring chicken's necks, slaughter cows, grow wonderful food, have wonderful advice) more than I actually want a farm.  My kids are all the work I can do.  I do desire the simplier life but am only willing to go so far to get it.  Doesn't simplier involve a maid and a cook? (tee hee)

• 2006-Jan-18 - It's been a while....

since I stopped by but wanted to share my other blog with you too.  It's www.homeschoolblogger.com/juliestew.  I get to blog there so much more often than I do here because I'm not growing carrots, horses or chickens.  I really think I may be more of a "I want to live next door to a homesteader."  I love the more natural way of living.  I'm just not sure I'm there in full force.  Ringing a chicken's neck just sounds appalling.  But I'd really like to come get some out of your freezer when you're done.  I have a yummy new treat I've been eating I thought I'd share.  Homemade whole wheat bread, toasted with REAL butter, freshly ground almond butter from my local health food store, a touch of honey and sprinkled with flax seed.  Yummy, healthy and a treat!!!
Enjoy!

• 2005-Dec-23 - Just wanted to say hello

I just set up my blog and wanted to say hello.  I'm not a homesteader but do desire a more natural approach to health, nutrition and diet.  We live in the country but also in a subdivision.  I've got a house full of animals!!!  Three boys and a baby girl, thus the name "piggies and a swan".  Merry Christmas!!!

About Me

We live in the country but not on a farm. I'm attracted to the homesteader mentality, organic foods and medicine, natural living and a simpler, more Christ-filled life.
