It's Friday again!

Can you tell I love Fridays???  I do because this means that I made it through yet another week.

School went well this week.  Peter Rabbit managed to accomplish all that I had assigned for him.  I realized today that we need more structure when it comes to our history and science lessons.  The structure needed is more like choosing particular days to work on history/social studies, and then a certain amount of days for science.  So this is what we've come up with so far.  We will work on Science on Mondays and Tuesdays, and history/geography on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

I thought working them each a little bit each day was going to work for us, but in actuality I'm finding that it will be a recipe for burn out for me, not him.  And I'm the one that needs to keep it together here.

This will leave us with an open Friday to either finish a project, or map work, or just leave extra time open on Fridays for any type of extra curricular activity.

Next week I would like to begin a read aloud with him. We have chosen as our first read-aloud, The Trumpet of the Swan, by E.B. White.  This is an area that I have been seriously lacking in and now that I finally have this bunny's attention, I need to keep it.  This being our fourth week, we have now gotten on a sort of flow.

Printing Power finally came in from Rainbow Resource, only now I'm wondering if I need it at all and will this just be adding another stress on his plate.  Our English paces already have plenty of writing built into the program, and I'm only seeing that Peter Rabbit needs help in forming his a's, d's, and g's.  He's having problems closing them on the top.  So do I need a whole entire handwriting program for those three letters when all of his work is so extremely neat already?  I don't think so, but either way, I won't make any rash decisions and get rid of it right away, I'll hold on to it while I watch him for a while.

Frogger is doing nicely with all his chosen books this year.  He is not a writer by nature and so struggles with original thought.  He gets going when nudged, so that is my job this year, to be a major nudger.

Frogger is mildly dyslexic and struggles with spelling, but I try not to make too much focus on his weaknesses and just continue to work on them.  We have been working with Sequential Spelling, a program specifically developed for dyslexic children, and we have seen a major improvement in his spelling.  Still, I am coming to realize that maybe this is something he'll always struggle with and that's okay.  At least I'll have the years of Megawords and Sequential Spelling work to show people as proof that we did work on this issue. LOL!  I also think of my husband, who is also mildly dyslexic, although a bit more than my son, and he manages in the workforce just fine.   Frogger does excell in mathematics so for this I am grateful and have to realize that we all have different gifts and talents and God already knew this when he created Frogger, so if God already knew this and knows this and has Frogger's life all mapped out because I trust in Him, then I just need to chill out and let time and the Lord have its course on Frogger's life.  Frogger is a real trooper and never gives up and therefore encourages me to never give up.  Frogger approaches life with a postive attitude and claims he's never ever had a really bad day.  Yes, this child makes me smile!

Carebear is doing wonderfully with her online college classes and we have been discussing her future and the possibiblites of finding a job in our area, but we are also in prayer for God to lead us in the exact direction He would have her go.  I am a very big believer that God answers specific prayers so it will be interesting to see where God will take her and me in the process.

Turtle is working so hard as this is her last year of highschool.  I am so proud of her because her English is so much more challenging than anything that she's done or used to.  We almost dumped it and purchased something easier, but it was her choice to press on and get through this course.  She could have easily quit as I almost made it too easy for her to do so, but she didn't, she hasn't...to God be the glory!!!

Lots to do this weekend...lots on my mind...I will post on my thoughts for something new that I'm thinking of doing soon.  I've never done it before and am totally inexperienced, but have read about it on soooo many of your other blogs that I'm willing to give it a try...what is it...you'll have to come back soon and find out.

Have a blessed, blessed weekend and thank you for reading our homeschool weekly update!

Me!

ps  I'll also be trying to work on my blog and maybe add some new features.

Great week! I, too think the English Paces have a good amount of handwriting in them. The only other hw my youngest does is her memory verse each morning. No need for a seperate hw curriculum : )
Have a wonderful holiday weekend!
