I Am A Privileged MaMa

in Motherhood - Post Comment

To look at me, you may not agree that I'm an overly lucky lady right now... both my girls have been sick the past two weeks (Emily last week, Amy this week)... I haven't gotten much rest the past 14 or so nights, so there are probably bags beneath my eyes... needless to say, my house has been a bit of a mess... yes, the laundry piled up, despite my efforts (Jeremy even had to wash his own whites this morning )... I haven't stepped foot out of the house for more than a few minutes for a fortnight... I've been battling a sinus infection myself, due to exposure to illness and lack of rest, no doubt... I've missed church 2 of the past 3 services in the past week... I've hardly had a private moment to myself because both my girls have been clingy and will hardly let me out of their sight... but I am still a privileged MaMa.  Why?

Despite all my recent "trials", not one morning have I had to get up at 6 a.m. to punch a time clock... not once have I been forced to leave my coughing, feverish babies at a day care or with a baby sitter so I could make a day's wages... not once have I had to pay someone else to care for my ill children... when Emily's fever spiked high, I was there to give her a cool bath and pray until the fever came down... when Amy's temperature rose in the night, she climbed in bed with Mommy and Daddy and I wiped her forehead with a rag until her body was cool again... I've had all day (or all night, in some cases) to consult my herb books for natural remedies to help my girls... I've had a helpful, supportive husband beside me all the way who has helped with the laundry, washed the dishes, told me not to worry about the cluttered house, and bathed the girls so I could get a break... when the girls and I missed church, we received thoughtful phone calls, a bouquet of flowers from our church family, and a card that reminded us we were being prayed for... in the middle of the night last week when Emily's fever spiked dangerously high, Jeremy and I prayed for her and I literally felt her temperature drop several degrees in a split second...

Have the past two weeks been a bit rough?  Sure they have.  Would I like a little more sleep than I've been getting?  You bet.  Do I enjoy my home better when things are running smoothly?  Definitely.  But despite the sickness and fatigue and clutter and lack of usual routine, I wouldn't trade my lot for the world... I'm a full time mommy, and sick babies are, unfortunately, sometimes (but thankfully not often) a part of the bargain.  I've been blessed to be there with my girls through every minute of the day and night (and, boy, have we gotten lots of cuddle time in)... that is worth more to me than a million bucks or the best career in the world.  So you see, I am a very privileged MaMa.

Amen!

I am now a grandmother, but I did homeschool our children and was and am a stay-at-homer. I would like to add a great big AMEN to what you have written! Blessed beyond measure...
God bless,
Linda

You have such a wonderful attitude about this. Indeed, you are a most privileged Mama to two privileged little girls! God bless. Hope your little ones are feeling better now.
