How Cost Effecient is it to Make Your Own Mixes??

I've been wondering this myself... while I've always enjoyed making my own cookie and bread mixes, I'd never really put a pen to it.  While compiling my new recipe eBook, Wholesome Mixes, I did a little homework and was amazed at what I found.  It is DEFINITELY cheaper to make your own mixes, not to mention a lot more healthy (and fun!).

Here are some of my findings:

  • It costs only 78-cents to make your own Blueberry Bread or Muffin mix... compare that to about $2 a box for the tasty brands of Blueberry Muffins!

  • Did you know it will cost you a mere 41-cents to prepare a homemade Yellow Cake mix from scratch?  It's more than twice that much if you purchase a box of Duncan Hines or Betty Crocker cake mix from the grocery store.

  • The same is true for Chocolate Cake mix, which will cost just over 30-cents to prepare per batch!

  • Everyone loves a fresh batch of homemade brownies... but did you know you will pay around $2 a box for store-bought varieties vs. making your own homemade mix for just 39-cents?

  • For breakfast you can enjoy homemade pancakes for just 24-cents a batch, or you can be a really "big spender" and enjoy oatmeal waffles or homemade biscuits for just 48-cents a batch!

  • Why not spruce up Sunday dinner with a plate of delicious hot rolls... your homemade mix will cost you just 74-cents per batch to prepare.

Wow, talk about a great savings!  I am definitely inspired to fill my pantry shelves with homemade make-ahead mixes!!  If you're interested in using some of the homemade mixes I enjoy, I've compiled an eBook with 25 select recipes under the title of Wholesome Mixes.  This eBook will debut on Friday, Ocotber 12th, for just one dollar!!!  But more on that, and a free recipe,  tomorrow...

I made this calculation some time ago, and have been baking almost only from scratch ever since. No more store-bought cookies for us when I can make something more natural and much cheaper in my own kitchen! And, you get an additional bonus with the aroma that fills your home.
