We're Back

Posted in Memories

We had a wonderful visit to my home town last week.  Just like everytime you go back some things haven't changed & then again some things have changed ALOT!

We did alot of sight-seeing being as my husband has never been to Pennsylvania.  Here is a day trip we all spent going to some parks, national forrest & the big dam.

This was in a neat small town called Tionesta.

Then we drove up to Kinzu dam.

While there we threw down bread to these carp.  We were very high up & these fish were HUGE!

Most of the bread the fish got.  There were also 2 little ducks down there & then the gulls were flying overhead.  It was fun to throw the bread up into the air & watch the gulls swoop down & catch it.

The children also made a new discovery for the nature journals...

Can you guess what it is???  A chipmunk!  They had never seen one before.  I don't think we have them in Louisiana.  We do have lots of squirrels though.--Today we'll be drawing the animals we saw there for part of our homeschool.

This one looks pretty much like a cliff, but the interesting thing is that it had a natural spring flowing out of one of the cracks.

Last but not least that day we were so close to the state line we just couldn't resist...

On our way home that day we stopped and ate at KFC because my Grandma mentioned that she liked it.  Then we went home & played a new family favorite game...Monopoly.  I never realized that my children had not played it.  We have the Jr. version not the origional.  Now they have that on their Christmas list!

I'll share more pictures hopefully tomorrow.

As for today, after school we'll do our usual chores & probably enjoy the pool while it's still hot outside.

On this day in 1993

Posted in Memories

On this day 15 years ago, my husband & I were married.  I was 18 and he was 19.  Seems so very young now, but we have been dating since I was 16.  We had our son 10 1/2 months later.  Then Abigail came along 4 years after that.

It may sound strange, but while in a way it seems we've been together forever, it also seems like it's not been that long.

We have plans to go out to dinner just the two of us.  --We rarely do this but I think once a year is the rule somewhere...isn't it??? LOL

He had to work late today, but he should be here in about 20 minutes.  I have been ready for a while so after he takes a quick shower, we'll be on our way!

~God bless!

Where were you when the world stopped turning?

Posted in Memories

I can still remember that morning vividly.  My son was still going to school at the time.  Abby was sleeping in her little toddler bed with purple kitty sheets.  I had just gotten out of the shower and was wrapped up in a towel.  I had already flipped on Good Morning America and was starting to get out my make-up when I heard them say that there was some commotion in the background.  The first plane had hit but right at that second they didn't know exactly what happened.  I stood there watching and all of a sudden LIVE the second plane came crashing through.  EVERYONE was stunned.  Even these seasoned news casters had no words other than Oh God!

They kept talking about what "may" have happened.  Then came the terrorist talk.  There I stood, in my towel, frozen.  There were so many different thoughts in my head.  --Then they started saying that reports were coming in that another plane went down around the pentagon.   Then reports of another in PA.  They started talking about what would be next.

Then I really got scared ---We live very near a B52 base!!!    The planes fly over our house all the time!!!!!  I ran to Abby's room and got her.  I turned on the living room tv and sat there so scared rocking my precious little girl.  Then I called my mom & we talked for a little while.   Then more thoughts.  Do I go pick Tyler up from school?  Am I over reacting?  Oh no, I can't get a hold of my Grandmother who lives in PA.  Where did the plane crash there?   Then I thought.  PUT IN A TAPE.  I grabbed a vcr tape and put it in the recorder.  Then I just sat there.  Praying and watching the horror of the people of NY.

So, as you know a plane did not crash in Louisiana.  We were all fine.  OR were we?  Many things changed in my life from that point on.

I began to pray again.  --I mean REALLY talk to God.  Then  I started realizing how many horrible things were on tv.  I started listening to song lyrics and realized how misguided they were.  --Main thing, I started to pray more.  I didn't take my family for granted any longer.  I started keeping my home cleaner.  I started showing my husband more respect. And MANY MORE things like that.

I now TRULY value my family members.  I realize how good God is even through horrible tragedy.  I NEVER want to go back to my way of thinking before Sept. 11.   Every time I hear "Where were you" or "I'm proud to be an American" come on the radio I still think back to that day.   --A day of tragedy for so many but a day of awakening for myself.  I wonder how many others had an "awakening" that day as well.

I would never say I am "FOR" a war, but I do support our President and our troops.  Living where I do there are alot of military around.  I have seen & heard through them that everything they show on tv is not always accurate about what's going on with this war.

I just wanted to take the time today to share my story.  I would love to hear yours.

~God Bless the people who lost loved ones that day~

~God Bless Our Troops~
