Greetings and Salutations,

Phew, it's about time that I did some updating on my blog site.  Much is happening around here on the farm and it seems that we keep getting busier and busier.  Thanks heavens the guys are done with wheat harvest.  It was a long two weeks, with breakdowns and slow starts glad its over.

Soon we'll be going on vacation and this year we decided to take the boys to Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL.  We also plan to visit Universal Studios, Kennedy Space Center, the ocean and probably other sites as well.  If anyone has any suggestions for anything about Disney or anywhere please let me know by July 17.

Otherwise I'm busy carting the boys to their various programs and art classes this past month and a half.  Keeps them busy to that they're not couped up at home.

This August I'm going to try my hand at homeschooling my youngest son.  Not sure what program to use yet or how this is going to happen so I'll keep you posted. This will be my first year and I'm nervous and worried that I may not be able to do this but I'm foraging ahead with it.  Definitely need to organize my dining room. Any advice or suggestions from anyone who has or is homeschooling, please send them my way.

Well that's about all for now.  I'll keep posting updates and bringing new ideas with homeschooling and home keeping in general as often as I can.

Take care and God Bless,

Jody

Wow what a summer it's been.  The end of our break will end soon and in a way I'm kind of glad.  We need to get back in our routine again.  Summertime we were more relaxed but now that school is starting next week, it's time to start our school routine.

I have some good news to tell.  I finally found a good budget system after looking for a few months.  I came across a system similar to the traditional envelopes except that we do this online and with the computer.  If anyone would like to know more about it please get in touch with me.    This was a life saver for me because we went too long not knowing if we were going to have enough money left over at the end of the month.  Not to say that we didn't  try and budget, it's just that we know better where our money is going.  And that is definitely a good thing.  Course I'm always looking for more frugal tips or ideas.  Every little bit helps.

Progress on the remodeling of our home has come to a grinding halt.  Our contractor backed out so now we have to find another contractor and soon.  I really need a bigger kitchen and a mud room.  I would like to have the framing up by the winter so we don't have to worry about the snow stopping the progress.  I'll keep you posted as things progress.

Until then, take care and God Bless

Jody

new updates

Hello, sorry I'm taking so long to write.  Things now have slowed down quite a bit for me and I can finally catch up on all my to-do-lists.  Anyway, our calving season is over.  This year we lost quite a few, had alot of twins and we are currently bucket feeding two.  Not bad.  And now all the calves and cows are in their summer pasture grounds.  Thank heavens we keep having these rains for our ponds or else we would be hauling alot of water.

Anyway,  school is over for the summer and the boys' activities will be starting up next week Monday.  They both wanted to do swimming lessons and both are taking some classes through our art's council.  So they'll be busy through June anyway, and so far in July the only major thing going on is our vacation to Salt Lake City, UT.  So if there's anyone from Salt Lake City that would like to share any information about what to see or do, please let me know here or email me.  Anyway, with that and our old's son going with his Boy Scout Troop up to South Dakota for camp, July is not so busy.

As for me, there's plenty to do around the house.  There's always laundry and now I'm starting a new project.  I'm going from room to room and cleaning out all the stuff or junk we don't need anymore.  Basically decluttering the house.  I'm only now doing my spring cleaning.  Oh well.  Well if anyone out there has any tips whether it's cleaning, or budgeting ideas anything, bring them my way if you don't mind.  I'm always looking for new ways of doing things.

Until next time, have a great day.

Another Snowy Saturday

Ah! It's Saturday.  And like the past 3 weeks it's snowing again.  Although we dont have the ice like our fellow neighboring states, this is getting old.  Our roads are yucky and we're all tired of wearing our overcoats and overshoes to stay warm and mud free.  You know what I mean you fellow farmsteaders.  Anyway, I wanted to post a little about me and our farm.  I'm a stay-at-home mom to 2 young and energetic boys.  Coedy is 11 and Chrys is 8.  They definately are farm boys.  In fact, I dont recall not one time when they come in not fithly dirty.  Oh well, thank heavens for washer and dryers.  Some of the things I enjoy are cooking, reading books, watching good movies, and of course farming with my hubby.  I'm also in a monthly Bunco group.  For those who don't know what Bunco is, it's a dice game with 12 players.  It's very easy to learn and very fun to play.  I also do bookwork for my father-in-law and husband's oil business.  Yes we do drill for oil and once in a while we get a good well.  This year I want to try my hand at raising sweet corn so any ideas and tips would be great.  Right now we are in the process of remodeling our kitchen and utility room so I'll keep you posted on how things are going.  I might post pictures if I remember to take them.

Our farm consists of about 7000+ acres with the home place sitting on 160 acres.  Big, I know and it keeps my hubby and his partners busy.  Our crops consist of wheat, milo, feed and sunflowers with wheat being our biggest crop.  We raise 300+ cows.  And right now they are keeping us busy.  They should be having their babies soon so I'll try and post pictures when they arrive.  We don't have any chickens at the moment.  I want to redo the chicken house to better suit them.  Hopefully we'll have some by this spring.  We have 2 dogs, Sammy and Mimi.  Sammy, dalmation mix, is our outside dog and Mimi, tiny toy poodle, stays inside.  She's quite the character and has a personality all her own.  We do have some cats although I don't see them much.  I do believe that's all the animals we currently have.  Well that's a little about me.  I'll post more about my homesteading and post pictures in the upcoming days.  Until then, stay warm and happy blogging.

Greetings and Salutations my fellow homesteaders,  I have decided to make my own blog about our Kansas farm and homestead.  I don't have much information or pictures out yet due to being busy since we had the lovely ice and snow these past 2 weeks or so.  Anyway I am hoping to get more out there within a week or so.  Check back then and feel free to comment if you wish.

Thanks,

Jody
