Garlic as an Antibiotic
My husband came home from work yesterday and told me that he thought a cut he got on his finger at work on Monday was infected. It sure looked it - it was swollen so that he could hardly bend the joint. It was red all around the wound and hot. He said that when he woke up yesterday morning and squeezed around the swollen area, that a lot of pus came out. (Sorry I knw that's gross!) After he went to bed last night I remembered (I know the Lord brought it to my mind) a friend that was putting sliced garlic in her ear to remedy an ear infection, so when he was asleep last night, I sliced some up, and snuck into the room and fixed his finger up! I applied a whole clove of sliced garlic all around the wound and wrapped it well with 3 very large band-aids. He said that this morning his finger showed NO SIGN of the infection! Isn't that awesome? Since he is relatively new at his job, I was worried that we would have to take him to the doctor - a tremendous expense around here for a new patient. But, this worked wonders! What is your favorite home remedy?

This is a place where I post what I am learning about home-making and homesteading. I may decide to merge my two blogs. The other one is Jewls2texas on Homeschoolblogger. Let's just see how this goes.
Currently this blog mirrors my blog on HSB1 - we'll see how it progresses and develops over time! Welcome! Hope you enjoy our visit!

My husband Travis and I have been together for 18 years. He is an electrician and the most creative, resourceful person that I have ever known. He is my BEST friend.

My 15 year old daughter Kendra is in 10th grade. She is currently very invested in fund raising for a mission trip she wants to take with Global Expeditions to France & Italy in the summer of 07.

My 8th grade daughter, Kaitlyn is 13 years old. She is homesick for West Virginia - but looking for exciting new adventures as a family here in TX.

Kullen is my 9 year old son. He keeps the family on our toes. He has a very loving heart, and always makes us laugh! He enjoys playing his guitar.

Anyway, I think you are close to Plano, which is close to Dallas, right? It's been a while since I've been to TX so the proximities are vague. But if that's the case, then your last frost date is April 8, give or take a few days.
I would also ask at a local garden center and see if you can find anyone who plants a veg garden. Ask them when they typically can sow seeds directly into the soil, or when they usually move their transplants to the ground.
Hope this helps. I am pretty new to the whole growing food thing, too, but you know what "they" say: the best way to master knowledge is to turn around and teach it.....it helps me, anyway.
