Join us for the Carnival of Homesteading 2! Now in Progress

This week we have quite a variety of Carnival entries. Grab your favorite mug and have a cuppa’ tea or coffee, fresh goat’s or cow’s milk and spend some time with some fellow homesteaders as they share their hearts, their ideas and their experiences.

Kitty’s Korner tells us something we all need to know about the best cookware in our kitchens in Caring for cast iron pots. She gives simple instructions on removing rust from your pots. she also tells us how to season them.

Sprittibee has a great idea for organizing your home! Whether you live out on a homestead or in a homestead-in-the-city, keeping our homes clutter-free and organized is a must! It allows us to have time to do things we need to do and spend time with our family, instead of always shuffling stuff around! "The less STUFF in your life, the less STRESS in your life.  The more you allow others to help, the less work you yourself will have to do. Get creative and tackle that clutter. You’ll breathe a sigh of relief when your job is done." Read her 18 ideas in Ideas for Keeping Clutter to a Minimum for Moms.

Amanda has become quite the cook around the house. She blesses her family by making nutritious, delicious meals for them – and she’s the daughter, not the Mom! What a splendid thing on a homestead! She has an entire menu for you on her post: Taking A Break From Regularly Scheduled Horse Posts. She made up her own super secret fish batter recipe(and I can tell you first-hand it’s delicious!!).

EC- I am intrigued by Jeanette’s blogs, because, well, they live off-grid. For those of you who grew up homestead-challenged like me, that means they aren’t connected to the regular power source of electricity like most people are.
Jeanette has several animals on her ranch, and she also has some unwelcome critters!!! When we lived in NM, Matt had to go out and kill a rattler, so I completely understand this one! We also had baby scorpions up ….. ON OUR PORCH!! I was completely beside myself when Amanda had just been out and then I found one on the steps! Read Jeanette’s How To Treat Snake Bites and Learning About Scorpions!

Speaking of critters, hop on over to Jill Novak’s blog, Through the Windowpane. Jill is an author, artist and Homeschool Mom. Go on over and see what you and your family can do when you find a toad on your homestead in Anna’s Amazing Discovery.

The HSB Front Porch has a great idea that will not only save you money, but will also keep the dangerous chemicals out of your house in Homemade Household Cleaner.

Nancy, our very own UnlikelyHomesteader, tells you  about Testing for Egg Freshness in a handy poem and some links to help you determine if your eggs are still safe for eating.

EC- Candy tells us the 8 kitchen items she found in her bathroom that have wonderful uses in My Bathroom Cabinet Looks Like My Kitchen Cupboards!! Check in for some great ideas for some household items you probably have in your kitchen.

Check out what I learned about Slicing Up Your Cleaning Time from a Mom of 13.

Page at Desiring A Simpler Life tells us the importance of and how-to’s of Adding Feminine Touches To Your Home

EC – Chas, Homesteading on the Mountain, shares a scrumptious recipe for Blackberry Muffins that I have to try. Doesn’t that just sound like something you want to wake up to?

Jasmine of Ponder the Path gets you going on Soap Making Time, a series of post on how to get started making your own soap, with a recipe included!

BlessedMommy asks you, "What do you do when you receive a 20 pound box of pears??" in her post, Oh So Good!. She describes the process of making and canning pear sauce and shares the yummy recipe, so you can try it yourself.

After studying how "utterly disgusting pigs are", Jocelyn hasn’t eaten pork in the last year or two. She was happy when Mom found some beef hotdogs instead of the regular ones that use beef, pork and chicken. Here is her recipe for "Cows in a Blanket"

Eric Novak tells us about the Sweet Surprise he found in the garden while pulling weeds.

In nutrition on the homestead, Rachel asks the question "Are You Alkaline or Acidic?"  She also gives some information on Red Palm Oil and a few recipes, too!

I am posting this one as a bonus, because I absolutely LOVE these little B/W duckling pictures. These pics are so ‘homestead-y’!

EC- Christine Read writes about " A subject dear to my heart is the topic of motherhood and health.  You see, the health of the generations begins with the health of the mother" in Nurturing The Generations – For Moms and Moms-to-be".  She makes sure to let us know how  important it is that we get the nutrients our bodies need  in order to function properly as God intended.

This is an article written for our website, www.fairhillsfarm.com.  It is featured under the page, "Nurturing The Generations – For Moms and Moms-to-be".

****EC means I found a really fantastic homestead-y post and entered it, Editor’s Choice!
