1959 Collards Sprouting In My Garden
|
Well Folks, unless someone has sneaked into my garden and planted another kind of collard seed, those 1959 collard seeds are sprouting. I have had these seeds in MY freezer for at least 10 years. As I previously reported, they were given to me by my Granny Day. She had them in her freezer for many years. They were given to her by Aunt Annie Pearl, who is my Granny's sister. They may die tommorrow, but this morning those seedlings are present and very much alive in my raised bed garden! My Granny told me they were older than me and estimated 1959 was the year they were saved from collards in the garden. Amazing! God is so good to me! I also have radish sprouting out there. I planted cabbage plants yesterday. I wish you could all smell my ginger blossoms.
The garage took much longer than anticipated, which is usually the case with me. I always am too optimistic about what can be accomplished in a given time. I got caught up looking at childhood pictures of my girlies and their cousins. My mama had given me a box. I had never opened it and did not realize there were pictures in there. What a treasure! Also, I had been looking at doilies at the flea markets and antique stores. I had no idea that this box contained doilies handmade by my mother, my grandmother and even some made by my great grandmother. I am so excited!!!! I will be taking some before and after shots as I will be attempting to remove some old stains. I sure hope it all works out so I can add these to my decor. I am off to finish the garage! Who knows what I may find in there. Just as a sidenote, we had to postpone the farm work because we went into a much more major production in the garage than previously anticipated. I hope everyone has a wonderful productive day!
Cheers to All

That is really amazing that you had seeds from 1959 and they sprouted! I didn't think that seeds could keep that long.
You must have been very happy to find those doilies!

I love thinking about how delighted you must have been in finding the box of your mama's things and then also having those heirloom seeds sprout.
Awesome!

Wow! 1959!
I have read that some wheat seeds that were found in the great tombs of Egypt from the Pharohs were planted and grew beautiful wheat!
God provides and protects even the seeds that when planted in good soil.
Thank you for your posting.
Most sincerely,
Sharon

I'm so glad your seeds came up. And your garden is doing well. When you are done with your garage, do you want to come and start on our storage building it's a school bus? LOL every thing seem to makes it's way in there. I would love to see photos of your doilies, that is so cool.
Have you danced lately?

Pancakes syrups: have you tries using jams. When we are out, they spread strawberry jam/ applebutter/ and other jellys on the pan cakes.
I'll be making the clothes soap soon as I am on my last bottle of the store bought stuff. I have been saving my empty bottles to put the homemade in.
Please let me know when you get your new cook book by Vickic Tate and how you like it, I love mine.
The last day or two Tommy's had off days, not really bad, just not good. He is really tried.
In town yesterday, more than 10 gas stations here were out of gas. And I don't need to go back to town for almost two weeks, Thank you Lord.
Have a wonderful day.
