More Local Bounty
This morning, I went to a local farm.   I met some friends there.  I picked one gallon of blueberries, one large basket of peaches and one large basket of apples.  I bought ten pounds of tomatos, ten pounds of green beans and 25 ears of corn. For all this I paid 56 dollars.  That means the farmer made 56 dollars directly paid to him.  There were no middle men and no truck drivers, just the farmer getting paid for his hard labor of love. Most meals in America have traveled 1500 miles to get to your table.  That is a lot of petro that could have stayed in the Middle East!
This farmer was so sweet. He is a good, decent, honest, moral, God-fearing gentleman.  He is an elderly fellow. But he still goes to the field everyday to farm and to run the starlings off the blueberries.  He knows so much about so many things. I could have stayed there all day with him. But, I had a Dr.'s appointment.
In the picture, you will notice that the ears of corn have been shucked already.  Thanks Baby Bear  for helping me. Just like old times eh!   Now about those green beans.....

Yeah, you got a great harvest and a great price. I love supporting local farmers when I can. I really liked Animal, Vegetable, Miracle. I didn't agree with everthing she said, but she made some great points and was very encouraging. Hopefully I can support my favorite farm on my way home from our trip and save him from taking it to the farmer's market and me going there :)

Sorry it's taken me so longer to get back to you.
With the apples, use a hot water bath for apples and apple sauce, or I make the no cook jam/ jelly. I,too was scared at first to pressuer can, but find someone to come and show you how to do one canning, and tell you what to look for. It's ok to be a little scared, as this will keep you safer. And you will love how fast everything gets done. Have a great day. Becky
