busy......

Whew.... Boy am i tired! We have been so busy with the garden lately that I haven't had much time to do anything else. I feel almost guilty that I haven't been on here in a while to post anything. I have been canning and baking and freezing everything in sight. Since this is my first year canning from the garden, I sort of needed to get the hang of things. I think that I am doing pretty good now. My oldest DD asked me if I was trying to kill myself. Death by canning! LOL, I think what she really meant was if I was trying to kill her! The girls do have a habit of disappearing whenever they see me go into the kitchen.

I made my first from scratch pound cake yesterday. Since we are now getting about 4 eggs a day out of the hens I decided that I needed to find some good recipes that use alot of eggs.We have about 13 hens out of 17 that haven't started laying yet, so I can use all the recipes that I can get! Back to the pound cake.......Oh my goodness! It is fantastic! It was lemon vanilla flavored. I even made a glaze that I drizzled over it when it cooled. Yumm-O!!!
It is quite rewarding when your family's eyes all roll back into their heads in pleasure whenever they taste something that you worked so hard on. I soooo love being a helpmeet....

I guess that I need to get off of here for now. I am at the library with the girls and it is almost time to go shopping.

hair pic for my mommy

well, here is the new hair color. usually my hair is a very dark brown, almost black colour. My DD talked me into putting in highlights and I am just now getting around to posting a picture for my mom.

I have lived with it for a month, but I still think that I need to tone it down some. It is starting to look a little funny where my roots are coming in.  OK mom, are you happy now? Lots of LOVE!

Aren't we cute?

While loading my camera software and new pics onto the new computer I found a pic that I forgot had been taken. Our church youth group took a trip to the zoo about a month ago and I had a lady take a pic of my honey and me. It had been raining so we were a little wet.

Yes....I am the nerd that dressed us alike! The girls had on navy shirts just like ours, but it seems that I didn't get one of all of us. Oh well! Better luck next time eh?

Lookie what we have!

As I was taking my shower this morning, my oldest daughter rushes to the door and starts knocking. "Momma! Look what I found!" I say"Come on in"  and in she comes and thrusts her hand in between the shower curtain and the wall.(no...there is no persional space in my house. LOL!!!)  "We have eggs!" she excitedly proclaims. (as excited as a "cool" 13 yo will get)

It appears that our Ameracaunas have started laying. I took a pic with a store bought white egg just to show you how small they are. Aren't they just the most beautiful colour? The kids have requested breakfast for supper so that they can eat them. I think that they will be a little supprised when they taste how strong they probably are. Since the hens hadn't started laying, we have been giving them all of the garden scraps. This means onions too! That makes for a really smelly egg!

that glaring white page......

 I seem to have hit a bit of blogger's block. I have spent the past month just reading other blogs and I cannot seem to find my place. You know..."Do I want my blog to have a classy devotional feel to it?" or "Should I let it all hang out and let them know just how crazy I am?" Sometimes I feel as if I should have 2 blogs. One blog for the days that I feel like a Virtuous Titus 2/Proverbs 31 Woman(type 1) and a seperate blog for the days that I feel like a Country Girl/Chicken Farming Homesteader(type 2)! I really have a hard time combining the two on this blog because I like to decorate according to what mood I am in. Right now I have my page decorated in my Type 1 personality. Somehow it just doesm't seem to fit in very well on the homestead blogger! If you look back in my archives, you will see both of my personalities coming out. I am starting to feel a bit like Sybil now that I am listening to myself! LOL!!!! I guess that I am just feeling really complicated and difficult here lately.
