This Week in Our Home

01:53 PM, Tuesday, June 10, 2008 .. Posted in In Our Home .. 0 comments .. Link

Well..Its been about a week since I last blogged.  The way things are going around here that might be how it works unless I just actually get some down time.  Here's what has happened this week.

I had a yard sale with my niece on Friday Junes 6th.  Boy was it hot, about 93 deg. I got good and burnt.  With me being so fair skinned it's not that hard to burn...even with sunscreen.  I guess I'm gonna just have to start wearing big hats when i'm out like that.  I have one but It would'nt stay on very well because of my hair being twigged up the way I had it.  I guess I'm gonna have to think about  a better way to do this sun thing.  I got sun poisoning a couple of years ago and I definately don't want to go thru that again...but I don't want to just sit inside all the time either.  I'll figure it out.  Other than the sun and heat the yard sale went ok.  I made a few dollars and I was able to clear out a few things in the process.

I worked around the house alot this past week...inside and outside.  We did have some major storms and was out of electric for about 12 hours.  Now this made me really start thinking...and about what I will be blogging on in another section that i'm going to create today called  "Being Prepared".  Thank God the power was on so quickly.  I know 12 hours seems like a long time but compared to the other areas around that was a short time.  some homes were out of power for 2 days or more.

I worked in our family cemetery for awhile.  I could'nt work too long because of the heat but I did get the weeds cut around my Daddy's grave,  an Uncle's grave,  a cousin's grave and a man my mom used to take care of in our home when I was young who was like a brother.  There a 6 more graves and lots more room but I only got about 1/4 of the grass cut that day and the weeds around the above mentioned graves cut and cleaned away.  Since I did'nt get the whole cemetary done I will have to start all over in a couple of days to make it all even.  But sometimes you just have to let things go and then begin again to get it right.  You have to drive right by our cemetary to even get to our home so its quite close and its easy to work on as I just walk up the lane and do a little bit and then walk back home when I need to...So anyway...enough of my rabbit trail...I will get the grass done probably day after tomorrow as its suppose to cool down some.

I'm actually postin this on tuesday  so i will include the weekend and yesterday in this.  This weekend was spent like this.  Saturday I just basically recooped from fridays sale, so I just piddled a little in the house.  It hit 100 deg so that was all I could really do.  Besides making sure the animals was fed and watered and the garden was watered that was just about all for that day.  Sunday was spent as a day of rest seeing as how it was the Sabbath but the animals still had to be taken care of.  Now for Monday...

Monday was a really wonderful day.  It started at about 3:00am with my youngest sister Maggie going into labor.  It was a mixture of a happy and a sad day.  Mark Elijah "Eli"..." Bean" was born about 11:30am.  The sad part was that our Daddy had passed away on March 14 08 and this would be the only grand-child he would not have been here to see.  I'm sure there will be more born in the future but "Bean" was the 1st one born after Daddy's death.  It was a very Bitter-sweet day.    "Bean" was born at 5 lbs 5 oz and 19 inches long.  He is healthy but there was some concerns because my sister has a genetic disease called MTHFR and it causes her blood to clot which also causes blood clots in the placenta when she is pregnant so she has to take Lovenox (blood thinner) shots in her stomache the whole pregnancy.  Also while in labor they discovered that Bean had already pottyed before birth and that can cause some complications for baby if inhaled so neonatal was there and ready ...but thank God he was fine.  They did have to immediately suction him and they did that a couple of times thru the day.  He also had trouble keeping his body temp so he was in the wamer a little x-tra time but other than those things he's perfectly healthy..Thank GOD!!!!

So today is Tuesday and I've been working in the house all day.  After the baby was born and we knew he was good I went to do our monthly shopping.  I will also be bloggin' in the "Frugal Living" section all about my shopping finds and deals and "undeals".

I hope you have all had a good week and are spending time with God daily for He alone is where we retain our strength.

Mary

I've got this book that I have read so much the binding is literally coming off.  I guess I'm gonna have to duct tape it because I plan on passing this wonderful book on to my first daughter-in-law...  For those of you who have read it then you will agree that there are some far out ther things that, to be quite honest with you as much as I believe in living frugal..some of the things are just OUT THERE.  But I have to say that 99.9% of the book is AWSOME.  It's definately worth the money that I spent on it.  Actually the author says..Don't buy this book but go to the library and borrow it..Huh..imagine that..another frugal tip.  But I don't regret at all the money that was spent on this book. Anyway.  I sill be including some of the great tips I've learned from here on a regular basis.  Of course with all the credit going to Amy Dacyczyn (pronounce decision) A.K.A. How do you know your a " Countrygirl"...

01:38 AM, Friday, May 30, 2008 .. Posted in Stories, Poems and Short Sayings .. 0 comments .. Link

1. Perhaps, your children say YAS um , instead of YES mam....
2. When your livingroom carpet could grow the next garden.... I am teasing its not that bad...
3. When you would rather hang laundry , then use the dryer.
4. When writing real letters to your closest kindred spirits, beats emails...
5. When you love sewing your own clothing, instead of buying from LLBean, Lane Bryant or the like.
6. When denim is your favorite color.
7. When you grow your own food and can it yourself , instead of stocking up at Save-A-Lot.8. When making your own Bread from Scratch and Knead it yourself, instead of letting a bread machine do the fun stuff.
9. When waiting the hour or more for bread to raise is used to take time out to read to your children or pray.
10. When you know that all things Depend on God...The weather, A healthy Birth, A Happy Family...
11. When having over family means the joy of cooking a huge meal and also hearing the complements afterwards...
12. When your children play outside for hours instead of watching a TV set.
13. When you can remember all the old skits on Hee Haw....
14. When your favorite song, speaks of family, harvest or Tractors...
15. When the words "being in a pickle" ... means your in big trouble....
16. When going to bed at the end of a long day is heavenly bliss...
17. When the smell of fresh clean babies and diapers is wonderful and cherished.
18. When wearing bib's , doesn't mean to get the babies ready for dinner...
19. When hearing the rooster crow at 5am and seeing the sun dawning is
joyful...
20. When milking the goat , laying your head on her flank and feeling her warmth (especially in mid winter) you find peaceful time alone with the Lord and are oh so greatful for a moment of silence and contentment.
21. When the love , care and happiness of your husband, children and family and friends is the most important thing in your life...

I am sure there is alot more things that make us a " Countrygirl " perhaps you can add a few to the list... ( feel free to add in the comments section) Some are funny, some are just pure joy...

I today feel so glad that the Lord has made me a "Countrygirl" and that
I can do all the above and enjoy it.

The Coffee Of Life

01:35 AM, Friday, May 30, 2008 .. Posted in Stories, Poems and Short Sayings .. 0 comments .. Link

A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together
to visit their old university professor. Conversation soon turned
into complaints about stress in work and life.
Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and
returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups -
porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some
expensive, some exquisite - telling them to help themselves to the
coffee. When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the
professor said:
"If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups were taken up,
leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you
to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your
problems and stress.
Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to the coffee. In most
cases it is just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we
drink. What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but
you consciously went for the best cups... And then you began eyeing
each other's cups.
Now consider this: Life is the coffee; the jobs, money and position
in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain
LIFE, and the type of cup we have does not define, nor change the
quality of LIFE we live.
Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the
coffee God has provided us."
God brews the coffee, not the cups.....
Enjoy your coffee
*"The happiest people don't have the best of
Everything. They just make the best of everything." *
*
Live simply.
Love generously.
Care deeply.
Speak kindly.
Leave the rest to God.
You are the miracle,
Your life either shines a light - or casts a shadow*.
I don't remember where I got this one but I thought it was note worthy.

RELATIVITY

One day, Timmy was talking to God.
"What's a thousand years like to you, God?" Timmy asked.
"Like a second," God replied.
"What's a million dollars like to you, God?" Timmy asked.
"Like a penny, Timmy," God replied.
"Hey, God," Timmy thoughtfully asked, "can I borrow a penny?"
"Sure," God replied. "Hold on a second."

True Story....

01:30 AM, Friday, May 30, 2008 .. Posted in Stories, Poems and Short Sayings .. 0 comments .. Link

Scientists at NASA have developed a gun whose purpose is to launch dead chickens. It's used to shoot a dead chicken at the windshields of airline jets, military jets and the space shuttle, at that vehicle's maximum traveling velocity. As such, it simulates the frequent incidents of collisions with airborne fowl, thereby determining if the windshields are strong enough.
British engineers, upon hearing of the gun, were eager to test it out on the windshield of their new high speed trains. However, upon firing it, the engineers watched in shock as the chicken shattered the windshield, smashed through the control console, snapped the train engineer's backrest in two, and embedded itself into the back wall of the cabin.
Horrified, the engineers sent NASA the results of the experiment, along with the designs of the windshield, and asked the NASA scientists for any suggestions.
The NASA scientists sent back a three-word response:
"Thaw the chicken."

Real Signs

In the front yard of a funeral home, "Drive carefully, we'll wait."

On an electrician's truck, "Let us remove your shorts."

Outside a radiator repair shop, "Best place in town to take a leak."

In a non-smoking area, "If we see you smoking, we will assume you are on fire and take appropriate action."

On a maternity room door, "Push, Push, Push."

On a front door, "Everyone on the premises is a vegetarian except the dog."

At an optometrist's office, "If you don't see what you're looking for, you've come to the right place."

On a taxidermist's window, "We really know our stuff."

On a butcher's window, "Let me meat your needs."

On a fence, "Salesmen welcome. Dog food is expensive."

At a car dealership, "The best way to get back on your feet - miss a car payment."

Outside a muffler shop, "No appointment necessary. We'll hear you coming."

In a dry cleaner's emporium, "Drop your pants here."

On a desk in a reception room, "We shoot every 3rd salesman, and the 2nd one just left."

In a veterinarian's waiting room, "Be back in 5 minutes. Sit! Stay!"

In a Beauty Shop, "Dye now!"

On the side of a garbage truck, "We've got what it takes to take what you've got."

In a restaurant window, "Don't stand there and be hungry, come in and get fed up."

Inside a bowling alley, "Please be quiet. We need to hear a pin drop."

In a cafeteria, "Shoes are required to eat in the cafeteria. Socks can eat any place they want."

Master's Bouquet

01:11 AM, Friday, May 30, 2008 .. Posted in Stories, Poems and Short Sayings .. 0 comments .. Link

The Master walked in His garden
Plucking flowers along the way;
He plucked two of my loved ones,
To add to his bouquet.

My heart at first was broken,
At the loss of two so dear;
But the tears I shed just washed my eyes,
So I saw His way more clear.

My Lord has a need for just this one,
For the pattern He has in mind;
But it's hard for the rest of us to see
Why we must be left behind.

Perhaps we are not ready to go just yet
We may need to ripen more
To reach the full blown fragrance
My Lord is waiting for.

To each, give forth a fragrance
To each we chance to meet
We should each be trying day by day
To make our fragrance sweet.

So I'm going to try my very best
To be loving and kind each day,
So at last I'll be counted worthy
To be part of my Master's Bouquet.

Adult Resignation

01:07 AM, Friday, May 30, 2008 .. Posted in Stories, Poems and Short Sayings .. 0 comments .. Link
I am hereby officially tendering my resignation as an adult.

I have decided I would like to accept the responsibilities of an 8 year old again.

I want to go to McDonald's and think that it's a four star restaurant.

I want to sail sticks across a fresh mud puddle and make ripples with rocks.

I want to think M&M's are better than money because you can eat them.

I want to lie under a big tree and run a lemonade stand with my friends on a hot summer's day.

I want to return to a time when life was simple.

When all you knew was colors, multiplication tables, and nursery rhymes,
but that didn't bother you, because you didn't know what you didn't know and you didn't care.

All you knew was to be happy because you were blissfully unaware of all the things that should make you worried or upset.

I want to think the world is fair.

That everyone is honest and good.

I want to believe that anything is possible.

I want to be oblivious to the complexities of life and be overly excited by the little things again.

I want to live simple again.

I don't want my day to consist of computer crashes, mountains of paperwork, depressing news, how to survive more days in the month than there is money in the bank, doctor bills, gossip, illness, and loss of loved ones.

I want to believe in the power of smiles, hugs, justice, a kind word, truth, peace, dreams, love, the imagination, mankind, and making angels in the snow.

So....here's my checkbook, my wallet, my car-keys, my credit cards and my 401K statements.

I am officially resigning from adulthood.

And if you want to discuss this further, you'll have to catch me first, cause,

"Tag! You're It."

Dust If You Must

01:05 AM, Friday, May 30, 2008 .. Posted in Stories, Poems and Short Sayings .. 0 comments .. Link

Dust if you must, but wouldn't it be better
to paint a picture, write a letter
bake a cake, or plant a seed
ponder the difference between want and need.

Dust if you must, but there is not much time
with rivers to swim and mountains to climb
music to hear and books to read
friends to cherish and life to lead.

Dust if you must, but the world's out there
the sun in your eyes, the wind in your hair,
a flutter of snow, a shower of rain,
this day will not come round again.

Dust if you must, but bear in mind,
old age will come and it's not kind.
And when you go, as go you must
You, yourself, will make more dust!

Clearing Out and Going Thru

12:40 AM, Friday, May 30, 2008 .. Posted in In Our Home .. 0 comments .. Link
Well, today we've been pretty busy. I've been getting things ready for a yard sale. I've been working on it for a while but the closer it has gotten I've really started going thru alot more. My living room looks like a cyclone came thru. Thank the good Lord hubby is so wonderful. He also knows that this little bit of a mess right now will ultimately be better in the long run. I'm also getting Dorothy, an older lady that has been living with us for 3 years ready to move in with my niece, Jessicca. Jessicca is currently going thru a divorce and Dorothy decided that maybe it would be a good thing for her to live with Jessicca. They are both single plus they both smoke and it will just work out better all the way around for us and for Dorothy. Once she is moved out I will be working in that bedroom getting things back in shape for our oldest son Chad to be in there. Besides all this I've been keeping up with the normal house work things.

Hope all has had a few moments with the Lord. Remember no matter how busy we get during the day He is still the reason we are here.

Being Content

12:39 AM, Friday, May 30, 2008 .. 0 comments .. Link
My dear friends, I hope this week you have all drawn close to the Lord. I know that for myself I'm definately Learning to Lean on Jesus more and more everyday.
A particular subject has been on my mind the last few days...these verses have been floating around in my head along with it.
Hebrew 13:5-6
5. Let your converstation be without covetousness: and be content with such things as ye have: for He hath said, "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
6. So that we may bodly say, Th Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.
To me these are self explained...and in this time of the world it seem like everyone is working and working but are still struggling..no one will ever be happy and/or content until they accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. And even then some have to really work on bing content. I urge you to pray about these things in your life that you are not content with.
Ask God to help you to learn to be content and just pray, pray and pray somemore. He will help you. Just come before His throne and be honest with Him and talk to Him. He is your Father. Ask him as you would your earthly Daddy.

Created To Be His Help Meet

12:38 AM, Friday, May 30, 2008 .. Posted in Created To Be His Help Meet .. 1 comments .. Link
-Genesis 2:18,21-22 And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him...And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam...and he took one of his ribs...And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

-1 Corinthians 11:8-9 For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.

-Proverbs 12:4 A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband. -These 3 Bible versed alone are self explanatory.

This is the 3 main verses that I think of when it comes to submissiveness. -I've been reading Created To Be His Help Meet Written by Debi Pearl...There also is a workbook companion that I have found very helpful with this study.

-I would recommend this set to any woman..young, old, married or single. I feel it has wonderful Biblical refences and wonderful insight into why women were created. I understand that not everyone agrees with this sort of life for a woman however, to me it is not a matter of opinion but a matter of scriptual fact.

We live in a rural area of West Virginia on a wonderful piece of land that was a gift to our family and my baby sister, Maggie's family from our wonderful Daddy and Mom. Daddy was ushered into the presence of the Lord on March 14th 2008 at 1:26am. We will forever miss him but it's a comfort to know he is with Jesus. I'm #6 of 7 children.

I'm happy to tell you we are a Christ-Centered, Homeschooling, Homesteading family who believes it is our jobs, as parents to teach our children and not the government's job. We also believe in biblical submission. I'm not perfect at it..by no means..but it's something I fully believe in my heart and soul is right. It's definately Biblical. We also believe in dressing modestly..not only for the women but men also. We also believe in living frugally and trying to manage frugally what God has blessed us with.
I feel so blessed to have this opportunity to share our lives with you.

We hope we can be a blessing to someone.

Love in Jesus Name,
Mary
