Another recipe.. this one's strange.
I wrote on my "how does your garden grow" post that I don't really like
watermelon, and I probably won't grow any. On further
contemplation, I may grow some. My aunt Rosie brought a dish to
one of the family gatherings that was a big hit, and it included
watermelon. I must admit, I really enjoyed it, even though I
don't normally like watermelon.
It has two ingredients. Watermelon, and (get this,) feta cheese. It might have had some ground black pepper too.
Now, I didn't think I would like this, but I really did. I told
her I don't like watermelon, and she said "try it." Anyone who
knows me knows I will try anything, even if I don't think I'll like it,
or even if I've never liked it before. That's how I came to enjoy
brussel sprouts (with peanut butter,) and winter squash (with butter
and garlic, instead of brown sugar.)
You might consider trying it. You just chunk up a watermelon, add
a couple cups of crumbled feta, and you have a really interesting fruit
salad. It would be fun to play with, adding different seasonings,
spices, and fruits. As it stood, it was really good!
Play with your food!

Perhaps this recipe has something to do with the "cheddar cheese and apple pie" combo, Raymond. I always thought it strange when I saw a recipe for apple pie with a hunk of cheddar cheese melted on top. But it's the "fruit and cheese" thing that apparently is so good. So it would make perfect sense that watermelon and feta cheese would be good together too. I'll give this recipe a whirl sometime too... only with vegan feta, of course. ;-)
Blessings~ Andrea
