Life and times of a new farmer/homesteader

Calling all Christians on NAIS questions.

Granted, I don't consider myself a Christian.  I have many Christian friends however, and I have read the Bible at least seven times straight through (other parts alot more, like Psalms, I love Psalms...), but I don't consider myself a scholar of the Bible.  I don't know a good way to defend myself when arguing against NAIS where the scripture is involved.  Can anyone refer me to scripture that would bolster the arguement against NAIS?  I have difficulty with the government/religeon arguement against such government control.  If anyone who could help that would be great, and maybe even part of your ministry for someone like myself that knows not of what he speaks.  I can tell you why taxation is bad, why the war on drugs is bad, and why the death penalty is bad, but I don't know about why we shouldn't allow our animals to be marked or our property to be registered.  I have seen several Christian websites and blogs on this, but I don't know the scripture behind it.  Enlighten me.

An interesting thing happened this week.  On Tuesday, the postman was running late.  When he showed up, I heard about how the post office was struggling with the weather, and those postmen that were done with their routes were helping wiht the routes that weren't done.

The strange thing (for me) was that when the postman finally showed up at our house, I was outside, and...

I told him, "God bless you guys."

This is not something I would normally say.  The thing is, I meant it.  I really wished these folks would be blessed.   Not my normal expression of gratitude.  I even think I angered my neighbors, but they give me slack.  I don't know.  In Portland, this just isn't said.

You guys are rubbing off on me.  Spirituality as part of self sufficiency.  Reliance on yourself, and your God.  I don't know, but I think I feel it too.  I know I feel it.  I understand it, but I still have difficulties expressing it or explaining it.  I have so many ways to explain it, but I don't know the exact words.  I use the words that fit for me, even though I know that they have been better spoken before I.

I'm something of a rebel.  I guess I always have been.  Law doesn't matter to me as much as morality.  My morality is a product of my spirituality.

Sometimes I would like to be able to read a book and show people what I meant within the pages.  I don't know if it's all in the Bible, but alot of it is.

Why shouldn't we just give in to NAIS?  Is there a biblical reason?  Or is it just my mistrust of government and my desire for true independence?

Anyone know?  I would love to see reasons.

Please write back or comment...

Raymond

Hi Ray:
I just posted an entry on my blog that references another blog post from last spring. Your question, along with a couple of other posts today on NAIS, prompted my memory about a book I heard discussed on Christian radio several months ago. I meant to get the book and didn't. So now I will and maybe it's something you're interested in reading as well. Especially since you are housebound, to some degree, with all the "weather"!

On another note, I admire your honesty and your willingness to be open about your spiritual condition. You'll probably be getting alot of mail on this post b/c there are a lot of Christians on this site (I am one myself). My advice, if that's what you're looking for, is this: pray to God and ask Him to reveal Himself to you where you are right now. He's a powerful God and He will do that, if you are honestly searching for Him.

All the best,
MrsBurns

I know we are new friends - but wow! This post is so full of a desire for conversation. I wish you could come to my house and 1. teach me to start an adequate fire (my hubby can start it and I keep it going - but I cannot start one to save my life!) and 2. have a hot POT of coffee and talk about all this stuff while we work our way through the caffeine.
I am a Christian - and I am so thankful that you are obviously not anti-Christian. Spiritual life is so much a part of everything that goes on here - and truthfully everywhere.
I am going to look and see if you have any Instant Messengers - I have them all - merged in Trillian (love that program!). Maybe we could talk there. I do not know much about NAIS per se - however, I have been reading more and more posts about it. But I do know God's word.
Have a blessed day friend - and I MEAN IT!

Okay

Can't help with scripture

though like the others, i admire your honesty about your spiritual condition, and your openness.
I agree, pray.
Anyway, I can point out that in Britain and the rest of Europe we have suffered from this ludicrous tagging, double tagging in the case of cows, passports, even for children's ponies, date stamping eggs, ear tagging goats (go on, you try it!) and has it helped?
Did it stop BSE or FMD?
No, because factory farming is the pits, and no amount of little plastic labels will make it otherwise.
When we had FMD, innocent little herds of organic, homesteader cows were burned on great stinking pyres, to try to save the factory that is industrial farming - the big farmers that got FMD? (they caused it with their greed) they made millions from compensation and have mostly retired to the coast!
So I'll leave someone more competent to search scripture, and I'll just plead experience
