THE NEW PHONE BOOK IS HERE!!!

To quote Steve Martin as "The Jerk."  Stupid movie, but it rings true today.

I must say, I love this phonebook.  It's for Longview and Kelso, Washington, but it includes St. Helens, Scappoose, Rainier, and Clatskanie OR.  It has embossing, and gold leaf, and the cover is of Mt. St. Helens eruptng, with a sticker that talks about the 26th anniversary.  And it's BURGANDY Brown.  It really is a beautiful book.  My address is Birkenfeld, but my zip code is Clatskanie.

It's a really pretty phonebook, and it's much better then the one that covers Mist, Jewell, and Wauna.   My area is pretty wierd on that. My phone company is everywhere throughout rural America.  I send my bill to somewhere in Louisiana.  No biggie, but when you first learn about service out here it can be wierd.  Who wants to cover the really rural areas?

I hope to get a job around here eventually.  I've looked in Longview, but with no luck so far.  How can you get a job when you're overqualified, and tell them "I'll work for minimum, but I don't want a full shift..."?????

I want to spend my days here, on my land, with my resources, and using my skills.  I really want a part time job that pays minimum so that I can be here most of the time.   I don't need much money, but what else do they have to offer you?  Health insurance?  I have it through an old company.  401K?  The trees I plant are my retirement.  Stability?  I laugh out loud....

I have land, and I have chickens, and I'm getting eggs.  I could live here and not worry about anything but taxes, if I really tried.  But there are taxes.  I can feed myself for a very long time.  My food might not be interesting, but it would get me by.  My life might not be interesting, but I would be entertained.  Defense, well, ok.  I don't have a gun.  I could use one, and I am going to get one, but to get the money to get one I need a job.  Or something,  Maybe I can figure out my own way of making money,  I never have been good at it before, but I never have been good at raising chickens before, and I'm doing it now.  I've never gotten an egg from a chicken I raised from a chick before.. Tonight I ate my first egg from a chicken I raised from an chick, and it was good.

I don't know what my path will lead me to, or through.  I don't know if I will ever get the answers I seek, or the life I want.  I know that if I rely on my own will, nothing gets accomplished.  I know that if I hand my needs over to someone else, I get enough.

I hope you get enough.  I seem to, it would be a shame, a pity, and a challenge if you did not.

Live in peace.  I hope you have enough...

Raymond

~"Over Nothing? Are you kidding? Page 73 - Johnson, Navin R.! I'm somebody now! Millions of people look at this book everyday! This is the kind of spontaneous publicity - your name in print - that makes people. I'm in print! Things are going to start happening to me now."

I love that line... LOL

I liked that movie and my husband still sings me the line about picking out a thermos. :) But he and I used to live in Yelm/Rainer at one point. As well as a long list of other cities in WA. Small world, well not really when you are online.
