Here are a few special tips that I have already begun to implement ( and a few that I haven't had a chance to quite yet! :-D)
- Old T shirts make great rags for dusting, polishing and general household cleaning.
- To remove crayon marks from wood furniture, rub mayonnaise on them. Let it stand for 10 minutes and then rub with a soft cloth.
- To get rid of houseflies, put a sponge in a saucer and saturate with oil of lavender and place it where the flies can easily get to it.
- To deodorize a microwave, chop half a lemon into 4 pieces. Put them in a small bowl with 1 cup of water and a few whole cloves. Boil for five minutes.
- To clean a microwave, place an uncovered bowl of vinegar in the microwave and cook on high until it comes to a boil. Let the vinegar cool for a moment and then wipe the interior clean with a rag dipped in the vinegar.
- to clean your washing machine (once every 6 months), fill it with boiling hot water, add 2 gallons of vinegar and let it agitate for 8 to 10 minutes. Turn the machine off and let it stand overnight, In the morning, turn the machine and let it run through a complete cycle.
- To remove perspiration stains from clothing, add water to 4 TBS of baking soda to make a thick paste. Rub the paste into the stained area and let sit for an hour. Wash as usual.
- To keep shower doors shiny and clear, use a soft cloth moistened with baby oil or lemon oil.
- Keep a bar of soap on a sponge to prevent it from becoming soggy. You can use the sponge to clean the basin or the tap.
- To avoid re-tying kids shoe laces, wipe them with a wet cloth before you tie them the first time, they will stay tied all day.
- Put a bucket under the gutter spout to catch rain water. Use it to water your houseplants, they will thrive!
- In the spring, scatter pieces of yarn around the shrubs and in the grass, for birds to use in building nests.
- To make candles burn longer and not drip, chill them for 24 hours in the refrigerator before using.
- To get rid of onion or garlic smell from hands, try washing with cold water, rubbing with salt, then rewashing.
- To clean a bar-B-Q grill rack, lay it on the lawn overnight. The dew will combine with the enzymes in the grass to loosen any burned on grease.
