My reply to "HOW TO KEEP ORDER"

Posted in THE HOMESTEAD
IN THIS BUSY LIFE OF MINE
asked a question

How do I keep house?

I have three teens, and they are an enormous help.
When they were little?
At the age of 2
they learned to drag an empty laundry basket
behind them and we cleaned the living room
right before daddy got home.
As soon as they were old enough
to clean.
They did.
And they always have.
There is no choice.
I have told them as soon as they could understand:
You are 1/5 of a whole family.
It takes a whole family working together
to make this home function.
The big thing for us now is that the house is
picked up and dinner is cooking
or done
when my dh gets home.
I want my girls to love their husbands this way
I want my son to be loved this way.

Do we have schedules?

No not really. Never have.
If it needs done, do it.
Now. Not "in a minute".

Do we have a loud house?

Yes ma'am.
We live life at full volume!
In the evening though, it's time to quite it down.
It is the silence, that will deafen me
when my kids move away.

Do we use the TV / VCR?

When they were babies, they were allowed to
watch ONE 30 min "sing along" tape
a day.
That is when I slammed in a 30 min nap
before I had to go to work.
Again, we all cleaned up so there was not really a
"kids do this while I did that"
situation.

What does a typical day look like at my home?

Here are the things that happen
every day.
So far, and thank God
We wake up.
I throw in a load of laundry
We eat.
The kids work on school
They shower.
Throw load of laundry in dryer.
I shower.
Lunch is eaten
I fold and put away a load of laundry
Dinner is made
Dinner is eaten.
We watch some sports on tv
We go to bed.

Otherwise, there is no real rhyme or rhythm to
our day.
We just do what needs done.
Some days we have lessons.
Some days we have practice.
Some days I have Bible study
Some days we have games.
Some days I work.
Some days we just go to the park.

We are pretty flexible.
And really always have been.
Even when they were babies!!

HTH!!

PAYING OFF THE MORTGAGE EARLY

Posted in THE HOMESTEAD
I have Dave Ramsey's Finance Peace book.
However, there is a lot in his book about "investing here, and investing there". Right now, the markets are pretty scary.

What I would like to do is pay off my home, early.

Do any of you have any experience in paying off your mortgage early, and if so, can you share the method you used?
If there are any books you can recommend, that would be a huge help too.

CHECK!!! Thank you for doing this!!

Posted in THE HOMESTEAD
I sent out a cry for help and whamo! Answers!!

I am going to keep a running tab on this entry of my answers. Thanks so much!!

This is what prodded me to think yesterday morning.......

Here is the first step:

For us, check!
We are sitting on 5 acres. We have a veggie garden. We will be cutting a ton of wood to keep the propane costs down. Debt is almost totally eliminated (except the mortgage). In one month, we will be debt free. So we are headed in the right direction there.....

More to come.

LOOKING FOR LADIES THAT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING!!!

Posted in THE HOMESTEAD
Ladies

There are a few blogs on there that have amazing information on 'stocking up' and 'being frugal'.

For the novice, or the person who just stumbles onto this site for the first time..........
Is there some place, or does someone have an archive that gives a super simple, step by step way of preparation?

Example:

1)Start stocking ____, then stock ____.
2) Buy this
3) Purge that
4) Store it in this

Kinda like a "12 step program" lay out.

I want to be prepared for my family of 5, and more. I have dear friends who do not take any of this serious, and I want to have more than enough..........

Thanks so much for your help!!!!

Whew...........it's Sunday!!

Posted in THE HOMESTEAD
First, let me say, that my daughter made me a cake (took 2 days) but oooo la la it is THE best cake I have ever eaten..........ever.
It's called The Ultimate Coconut Cake.
It weighs about 12 pounds when it's complete.
It's not for dieters, and it's expensive...............
But oh baby.

I can see why God said, "you may work for 6 days, but on the 7th you must rest". Wow am I pooped.

I must get my calendar under control.
Right now, it's controlling me, and I don't like it. Not one bit.
I need to sit down and plan this week out.......
I need a big sack of money to fall out of the sky too!! HAHAHHAH

It's getting colder, fast, so I need to get moving :-(

People are freaked out..............

Posted in THE HOMESTEAD
I worked last night, and the restaurant was packed. Good for boss, good for me!!

The hot topic of conversation was the bail out, wall street, and our government.

People, are scared.

It is a blessing that I am not formally educated. I don't understand a thing they are saying, therefore, I am not under the stress or pressure. But here's what came to my mind:

All the gals who put away food, who stock their pantries, who sew their own clothes, raise their own livestock...........
kudos to them!
This is their reward!! Right now everyone is freaked out..........
But those who chose a simplier path, are Blessed!!

So Blessed!!!

The Power of God in pictures!!

Posted in THE HOMESTEAD
This is what the storm front that blew in Sunday June 15th looked like from my front porch. This is facing north.

Look close.........this 'cloud' from the ground to about the middle of the picture?? IT'S DUST! The front picked up every tiny particle of dust and hurled it at my house, at about 60mph.

This is what the storm looked like as it approached my back yard. This photo is the south west corner of my land.

This was taken 1 hour after the first photo shot. This storm moved at about 65 MPH.

I love to watch God's Awesome Power

A great cleaning tip from Everyday Cheapskate!!!

Closet Rules of Order

What’s behind your closet door? Orderly rows of shoes, stacks of folded t-shirts and hanging clothes arranged by color and season? Or do you have a situation that could be declared a national disaster? If the latter, you might ask the President for federal disaster relief funds—or you could just get organized.

Here are simple steps to find calm in all that chaos. By the way, these same principles for organizing a clothes closet apply to linen or utility closets, too.

Step One: Remove everything. This lets you see exactly the space you have to work with. Prepare to be shocked by the pile of stuff that came out of that closet.

Step Two: Now that you can see the light of day, give that closet a good cleaning from top to bottom. Follow with a fresh coat of white paint.

Step Three: Separate the items you removed. Most people hate this step because it means getting rid of everything you do not use or wear. But there’s no way you could get all of this back into the closet, so buck up and let’s get this job done. Label three containers:

Keep: Put only items into this bin that you have worn or used at least twice in the past year. Be brutally harsh. If it doesn’t fit today, it’s not likely to fit any time soon. Get rid of it. If in doubt, do not put it into this bin.

Sell or Donate: Clothes and other items that are not right for you (as evidenced by the fact that you never wear them), but still have a useful life for someone else should go into this bin. What you consider ugly may be perfect to someone else. Take them to a consignment store or arrange soon to hold a yard sale. Consider donating your good used items to the Salvation Army or Goodwill. You may get a tax break, but more than that, you will feel good. Put all of these items in the garage or back of the car.

Throw Away: Clothes and shoes that are worn out, hopelessly stained, broken or in some other state of calamity go into this bin. Work quickly to ease the pain. Empty this bin often to keep the process moving.

Step Four: Divide the “Keep bin” by season, type and use. If possible, store out-of-season items in another place in your home. Next, separate your work or professional clothes from your casual attire. Now divide each pile into common-wear and infrequent-wear, arranging them so the items you wear most often are the most handy.

Step Five: Use closet organizers. At the minimum you need a sturdy shoe rack, good hangers and shelves in addition to your standard hanging rod. Investing in a few good organizational pieces will make organizing your closet—and keeping it organized—a snap!

Description
1 Timothy 1:15-16 Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life.
