I am so ready to start planting my garden. I have had it planned now for at least 8 months. I do have a question though. I have been having trouble with some of my corn having smut on the ears. Some other gardeners told me that it is a delecasy and others shrugging their shoulders. How do I find a good source for seeds with little or no smut? I tried gurney's and I did not have good luck with their corn. I did walmart and well lets not go there. In the past I have had ok luck with gurney's but year before My corn never came up. This last year I didnt do a garden because I thought to rest the garden. Any advise is welcomed.

Hey everyone sorry it has taken me so long to blog. Things have been hectic with me and my job and this cold weather. I have been working overtime at work and getting a bad head cold on top of that. As you know I am a calling card operator as a profession(not a confession) One of our operators had to go in for a quadruple bypass heart surgery. So the rest of us are taking turns doing his shift. I have decided that there are people with SHD. Selective Hearing eh? Disorder. I asked this lady for her four digit pin and she said to me " I am sorry honey I don't speak Spanish. (I am originally from Missouri, I have a slight accent but not that bad). She was calling from Arkansas. On another time I asked a gentleman for his four digit pin(Personal Identification Number to a calling card) He said "My who?" Another woman(God bless her), she was an elderly woman. I asked if she was using a calling card. she told me no she sold her car she wasn't allowed to drive anymore. Being a calling card operator I have access to a lot of wrong numbers. Like mainly the IRS. Several of our numbers are close to the IRS and I get allot of people calling asking me to send them their refunds. Here is the correct numbers for IRS information line is 1-800-829-8374. For refunds this is the number to call 1-800-829-4477 and if you want the 1040 form dial 1-800-829-1040. I almost lost two hens to a wild animal of some kind. they both lost one foot each. I have not had the heart to kill them. Doug, Marannda and I have taken turns nursing them back to health. Pillet has lost an entire foot, but she is a trooper. she has let me try to save the foot and she is able to walk on the stub. Goose on the other hand just ignores me entirely and she only lets Marannda touch her. The hens have turned into pets with disabilities.
This time when we got the cold weather we were more prepared. None of the amimals were bothered by the below zero weather. they were nice and toasty(even the horrid little rodents, YUK, Mice) Well that is it for now. My Baby sister isnt a baby any longer...

Well Another day and another dollar earned in this round sphere we call EARTH.... That sounds corny but when I thought it up it sounded more profound. Oh well on ward. I am the oldest of 3 girls. My youngest sister is 9 years and 13 days younger than me. I call her strawberry because well you know me everything has to have a nick name and it has to have a special meaning. Strawberry's is very special. Cause I thought it was when I came up with it at the age of 12 years old. My sister loves strawberries and she has a green thumb when it comes to strawberries. I wont go into details lets just say that When I see a strawberry patch my mind pictures a little 2 1/2 year old cherub with bright brown eyes(by the way that to this day twinkles with laughter). Ally is getting Married soon. Grashious! I hear that the man she is marrying has a twinkle of mistifiness in his eyes and that he is wonderful and takes good care of her. She wants me and my family to come to the wedding. I told her that I wouldnt miss it for the world. So me and the chitlens have set up a go to ally's wedding fund. I am going to put my egg money in there and the kids are going to put 2 to 5 dollars a allowence pay day. We have until end of jUly to get our buts in to gear. I think we can do it especially since my hens are finally laying their eggs. I am trying to figure out how I can get those Chics to mass produce. I was thinking about putting a conveyer belt under them and have a mechanical boot kick them in to gear but You know Doug, Mr Reality Check,(Whom I love so dearly and who lets me joke about him) He would have to build the hydrolics and the boots alone are atleast 20 bucks a pair. it would be post productive or something like that. Of course I say in my Mrs. KIA voice (Know It All) It wont be my money we will be spending. It will be yours. (Duh big red truck!) I know I know the money is ours. I was just testing him. Yah right (NOT)
Any way. Keehaul (the big white mean rooster) Tried to kick Suprise(The big black and white bore/nubian goat in the butt yesterday. Ha he missed. Flew right passed his target. Landed in the water dish. the water was partial frozen. Have you ever seen a big white rooster ice skate? I did and I almost didnt make it to the potty. Marannda had to go help him out. She was laughing so hard she could barley lift the soggy sot.
Well that is it for now chat with you guys later. Les Our pets and pests.

My youngest child, Sarah has a pet Rooster(Redstar) His name is Black Tom. She can carry him around like he is a baby. He comes in the house when the pullets are extra mean to him. He sits by the bird cages and watches Finding nemo with Sarah. He is good during the movie he doesnt mess in the house. After the movie however I have to rush him outside to do his buisness. I dont let him come in to visit very often. Sarah's other pet is Crystal her MALE albino Mini lopp who really isnt very mini at all. He weighs in at 11lbs. He loves her to brush him. She use to use my hair brush, I finaly figured out that the white hair in the brush was not from me going grey. Now she uses her barbie's hair brush. Jacob has a pullet by the name of Shrek. She is a redstar as well. She follows him when ever she sees him close by. of course she is spoiled and he has to let her out and follow him around when he plays superhero. This last summer she was his side kick. They saved the world from the grasshopper horde. (his mini lop(what a joke) her name is Speedy. Her daughter is Q-Tip(She is albino like her sire) Marannda's is Kissy kat. Kissy thinks she is human. You call her name she will meow in question. Marannda speaks pig latin to kissy and kissy understands what she is saying. Marannda is still working on teaching KIssy to meow in pig latin. So far it isnt happening. The rest of our pets are: the Aussie's: Ruby(TriRed)3yrs - Buffie Su(Black Tri)3 yrs Buffie is mine Ruby is Doug's. I had to get Buffie fixed because of her birth defect. She has an over bite and a stubby tail.(she inherited it from her sire) My Rottwieller: Selah she is 10 years old. Her and Jake were raised together. I call her my babysitter. In her younger days she watched the children when they played outside when we lived in the city. Now she is retired but she still keeps an eye out on them. Little bit@&- she is 14 year old Palmerainian/collie/cocker mix. She is one of the best dogs in the world. This dog is like a timex she gets a licking and keeps on ticking. This dog keeps all the others in line. so she thinks. She is about 54 lbs my buff orpinton chickens are the dumbies and the White wandettas and Austrillian Andolups are the smarties. The birds names are: Cockatails(Males) King, Sore spot, and MathYou. (Females) Sassy, Angorah, Dottie, The Parakeets Lucy the Wench and Sonny the Bright You already know the goats names. I have 6 Cockatails and2 Parakeets. 3 males and 3 females.(kept seperated) (Cockatails) My three cats are Kissy Kat, She is a black silkie. She is almost 9 years old. She acts like a mean hissing spitting even tho she is declawed meanie, but deep down she is a sweet heart. Her favorite pass time is to go and catch shrews and bring them to her person(Marannda). It is above her station to mess with the birds. She doesnt pay any attention to them. She has better things to do. Charlie is a grey striped Mangolian Mountain Cat of some kind. He is 2 years o ld and almost as big as my ausies (45 lb dogs) He is about 12 to 15 lbs. He likes to make the male parakeet scream and panic by just sitting next to the cage. He will bat the cage to irrate Lucy the wench enough to make her bite the bars. I guess she thinks she can take him on. Other wise he leave them alone as well. He prefers to catch me wild rabbits and bring them home and leave them on my porch. He likes to help the aussie's heard the chickens when they get out of the coop. I honestly think this cat thinks he is a dog. When the dogs bark outside and he is in side he growls and runs for the door to be let out. He doesnt use the kitty pan he prefers to go out side with the other dogs. I mean with the dogs. Daytona is a year old. He is a bangle cat. The most affectionate cat I have ever come acrossed. He also is my trouble maker with the birds. The reason we named him Daytona because he is a fast little bugger. He can catch a mouse in mid jump. The shrews and mice around here never see what hits them when Daytona is on the prowl. Last year when Daytona was about 11 weeks old an Owl picked him up and tried to have him for dinner. The Owl started with the tail and sliced open Daytona's Right inner thigh muscle on his back leg. It took us a week to catch daytona. We got him to the vet. (He was a feral cat(from someone elses barn) They had to amputate his tail to the 2nd vertebrea (I call him Daytona the tailless wonder) Daytona loves the taste of birds. He got ahold of my breeder Cockatails 3 weeks ago. So I have trained Daytona to sleep in a kennel at night so he doesnt mess with the birds. I keep my cats around because they are very good mousers and they keep me laughing.

My husband just finished getting this blog up and I am so thrilled to see it. There are five of us in this family. Our oldest daughter is 14 years old, Marannda. She will be 15 at the end of this month. Our only son is 10, Jacob. Our youngest daughter is Sarah she is 7. We have 4 dogs. 3 cats, 7 birds, 4 goats and 32 chickens. I love goats and chickens. My oldest goat is Anibellah. She is a nubian/pigmy/sannon cross, and she gets mail once a week. this week the postmaster sent her a survey on customer service. Doug says her only comment at this time is BAAAAA. Suprise is Ani's first born. He did have a twin with him but we had to put her down because of a cleft pallet. We named him suprise because we werent expecting him. From reading all my goat books, Ani's symptoms all pointed to very bad gas. Well they were wrong. Being that Ani was my first goat so now I laugh a year in a half later and it makes a good story telling when some one is down. Blizzard is this year's baby. He is a twin as well, we traded oreo for a pig,(that in itself is another story filled with humor and belly ache). The kids call him Blizzie. Then our new addition is Cowly. She has the markings of a dairy cow. She is 1/2 nubian and 1/2 boar. She moos more than Baaaas, but she is still a doll. Well I need to end this and get on with the day. I will have to add more humor about Gurnt the Pig and Selah the Rott. and My chickens and Children. I love to laugh and share the laughter. Les |
