I want wholesome stuff for my children! When I walk through the stores and look at the toys and clothing available for little children today I sometimes want to scream! It is mostly all garbage, truthfully. Bad quality, poisonous in some cases...trashy comes to mind when I look at some of the clothing for little girls. I started making natural skin care products because I wanted to provide my family with healthy and wholesome soaps and stuff...and I needed to use up some extra goat milk! I started cooking our food from scratch and planting a garden because I wanted wholesome and healthy food to eat. I learned about the gentle medicinal qualities of herbs because I was sick of having sick kids. And now we are branching out into the world of handmade toys, blankets, and all kinds of other stuff! I love it! If you are like-minded, check out the handmade goods available from all kinds of talented crafters at www.etsy.com and www.hyenacart.com If you like the doll pictured with my daughter, visit us at www.hyenacart.com/farmsteadorganics or www.farmsteadorganics.etsy.com

I can't believe how fast this summer has gone. It is almost scary! I am unprepared for the fact that in a little over 2 months now we will have another little baby in the house! I am realizing this week that I can't keep up with myself anymore...my mind works faster than my body can physically move. I am trying to build up enough of a soap inventory so that I can take the end of October and the entire month of November off from soapmaking. November is a busy month, so we need to have the bars ready to ship when orders come in...but I will be busy resting with the new baby! That means everything must be organized for my husband and daughter. It will happen...one way or the other! |

I have been trading on occasion with other crafters on Etsy and it is so much fun! Recently I traded a couple bars of soap for the adorable seed bag pictured below. Visit this crafter's blog... http://heathersheartfeltstitches.blogspot.com |

Gabriella did not think it was fair that Savannah always models the aprons that we are selling. Explaining to her that it is because Savannah is bigger and they fit her nicer did not help...so, now we always snap a picture of Gabi in the aprons. And, you know, they might fit Savannah better, but they look awfully adorable on little Gabi. Sadly, as much as I would like to model some aprons...they just don't look so great tied around my enormous, bulging belly. They do make great belly bibs, however. The apron below is listed for sale on www.farmsteadorganics.etsy.com

Today was yet another busy day... First of all, I am thankful to the LORD that we had a nice rain this morning! It was getting a bit dry. I filled orders this morning after a busy weekend (free shipping sale!). Then we packed into the van and drove an hour to Shipshewana to stock up on more oils for our soaps...had some yummy ice-cream cones too! As soon as we arrived home I began making a batch of soap...finished three mini batches this afternoon and will make more large batches tonight when the children are in bed. We want to get stocked up on fall seasonal varieties. Soap takes around a month to cure, so we need to be thinking ahead. Especially since the baby is due around the first of November! I must admit that I am getting tired and I hope to get myself ahead over the next few weeks so that I can start resting more as I reach the end here...I began my 3rd trimester yesterday! The cucumbers have been AWESOME this year! This is the best harvest of cukes I have ever had. I pray that they continue. We love pickles and never get enough put up. Last year they were gone before it even turned cold outside! It is so difficult to fit everything that I need to do each day into my schedule! If you find this to be true for you, you might like to read my latest newsletter. Just visit my site and click on the newsletter page...www.fromfieldsandgardens.com Have a great evening! Wow! This is such a busy time of year! Today I gave two hair cuts, made soap, did a gallon of crabapple juice (makes tart and refreshing popsicles) and a gallon of pickles, filled some herbal tincture orders for some Amish clients...and I am not even half finished with what I have on my "to-do" list! This evening we are treating ourselves to ice-cream! Yummy! I am also already dreaming about my relaxing before bedtime bath...after the children are all asleep and I have finished my Etsy work and filling orders. I think tonight I'll run myself a sweet buttermilk bath! A girl has got to have something to look forward to! Especially when you are as busy as I am lately! We are having a special sale until tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. FREE SHIPPING on all paypal orders that total $25.00 or more. Visit our shop for details...www.farmsteadorganics.etsy.com Sweet Buttermilk Bath Soak 1 cup of fresh sweet buttermilk or 1/4 cup of powdered buttermilk 1 tablespoon of cinnamon or ginger 1/2 cup of epsom salts or sea salts Pour all of this into a full tub of warm water. When it is all mixed in and dissolved, sink in yourself and soak your cares away! (If you want a deluxe version, visit our Farmstead Organics shop!) Enjoy your afternoon! |
