Hurricanes... We are prepared. I try and have things purchased early so that I will be ready. Are we really ever ready? Oh well. Hannah is coming but it is a fast moving storm. The ones that move slowly and dump rain on the worst. You never know if you will be without power and if for how long. The wind and rain can do a lot of damage in a short amount of time. It took years to build all the power lines and just a few short minutes to tear them down. The electric crews have to fix the big lines and then go back to the smaller ones. Please say an extra prayer for all the workers who go out after the storms. Sometimes this is the most dangerous.

I wanted to thank everyone who left a message yesterday. Thanks for the kind and thoughtful words.

I am taking the children to the library this morning. I am out of books and it is always good reading time before and after the storms. I was on Amanda's blog and she was talking about frying chicken. Yum. I deep cleaned the house yesterday so I will not be frying chicken. (The grease smell/ I don't like) But I will go out and get some while I am out. Today is my b-day and we were going to have Chinese. I have changed my mind. I had cheesecake for breakfast. It was good and I am not sorry. I will have to get on the exercise bike that I got for my b-day. God Bless. I

Praise Report

Posted in Unspecified
DD was SAVED last night. My daughter will be twelve on Sunday and I have seen the Lord working in her life. She asked Jesus into her heart last night and came to tell Dh and myself. What a wonderful blessing. Many prayers have been lifted up for my dd since her birth. I remember holding my sweet baby in my arms, praying for her and myself. Not knowing what the future would hold (still don't) but that God would be in control. What a blessing for our family today. Please pray for dd in her new walk. God Bless. I

Great Weekend

Posted in Unspecified

Our family had a wonderful weekend. We have three birthdays this month so Saturday was filled with shopping. I got a stationary bike, dd got a karoke machine and ds got hooked on phonics(k-1). Three different presents for three different personalities. Dh didn't know if he would have to leave to work the storm (Gustav). It doesn't seem like he will because Hannah is coming. Not sure what she will do but we have our eyes on The Weather Channel.

I am praying for all the families affected by the storm. I know how hard a hurricane can be. My thoughts and prayers go out to your families.

Yesterday, We went to Trinity, NC.  Our family visited a church and saw extended family. The trip turned out to be fun for our family. Hope you have a blessed day. I

National Homeschool Honor Society

Posted in Unspecified

If anyone has started a chapter of the Eta Sigma Alpha could you PM me? I would like to "talk" to someone who is an advisor or their children belong to the group. We are thinking about starting a chapter and need some advice/information.Thanks.

The children and I attended a homeschool meeting yesterday. It was a planning meeting for the first have of the school year. We have some fun/educational activities for our children to be involved with. It is always great to talk to my hsm friends. They are going through or have gone through all of the same things. What a blessing it is to have such wonderful friends. Thanks A and L.

The last two days have been busy. Today was payday so that meant shopping and errands. I just remembered on important thing I forgot to do.  I made a to-do list but I left it at home. Oh well. I ran a lot of errands yesterday before the hs meeting and had to come back to get the info for the meeting. Not sure where my brain is the last few days. I will do better next week.

Today is the last day of the first six weeks. I have to average out grades today and see how dd did. I am praying for my dear  "bloggie" friends. I feel the need to pray. God Bless. I

Cleaning Day

Posted in Unspecified

I have started the process of cleaning the house. I have a load of clothes in the wash and one in the dryer. Clothes, clothes and more clothes. We had several errands to run yesterday so the usual Monday cleaning is done today. This will be completed when dd is finished with her school work.

Yesterday, we had to go out of town. The gas was 12 cent cheaper per gallon. Yah. Every little bit helps. I had to fill up my tank again. I figured how many mpg I got. 30.58mpg. Not bad for around town driving. I am going to test out the mini-van next. I will go and fill it up in a few days and use that vehicle for a few weeks. (I know this is weird but why not have fun and be cheap and the same time.)

We will have to go out of the house on Thursday. I will pay some bills, go to another library and meet for a homeschool group meeting. I do try and combine everything that I can. Yesterday was a day in different directions. Couldn't be helped. I also need to get the tags for my dh's scooter. We have insurance but we finally got the title. Hope everyone is having a wonderful day. God Bless. I

Another Normal Day

Posted in Unspecified

Today will be another day staying around the house. On Tuesday, I went to get my hair permed and it threw off my schedule. If everything gets done today, we will go to the library tomorrow. This will be combined with any other errands that need to be done.

Dh had to put gas in his scooter this week. He figured out how much gas he gets per gallon....84 miles per gallon. Yes, I typed this correctly. Praise the Lord. In a few months, the scooter will pay for itself with the price of gas. Dh is on call this week so he will use no gas for a week. Small things can make such a big difference. I haven't had to put gas in my car again so I will see how that goes. I am hoping to get a little better gas mileage.

The mortgage is coming down. Slowly. I am still paying extra on the principal and it will continue to go down. We have a goal for Jan. and I believe we will have it down to 30,000 dollars. Hope you have a blessed day. I

Monday

Today is a wonderful day at the Homestead. We don’t have anything planned today but school work and light cleaning. I don’t need to go into town for anything. Later this week, we might have a homeschool meeting. Things will slightly pick up by next month. We will have homeschool group meetings and piano will start up again. Our family has three birthdays in September. They will be low key again this year. Every few years I will throw a big party. It will not be this year. Lol.

The garden is still doing wonderful. Dh put okra in the freezer this weekend and I put tomatoes in the freezer. We had an easy weekend, which I love. I am going to try to get my hair done this week. It is about time that I spent some money on my hair. I have been so cheap lately. God Bless. I

Busy Morning

Posted in Unspecified

DD and I (quick) cleaned the house this morning. I love the house to be cleaned so then I can go on to another project. I made dd a skirt this weekend (old jeans and material) and I am going to make another one for her. I think she liked the skirt. This one will be purple and an old jean top. This turned out to be my best (clothes) sewing. DD wore the jean and pink one to Church.

Dh is off work today because he had some errands to run. He took ds and dd with him for the last few. I have the house to myself. Can you believe? I am going to enjoy a few minutes of quiet time. I am going to have to cook something for lunch (instead of sandwiches) but not sure what. Hope everyone has a blessed day. I

Happy Day

Posted in Unspecified

My foot is finally healing. PTL. It feels so much better. I will rest it again today to help the healing process. I am going to be careful all week so that I will not re-injury my foot.

Homeschool is going wonderful. I feel that dd is learning a lot with the Bob Jones Program. It is taking us a while to get use to a new program. I have changed a few things to fit dd's needs. This is one of the blessings of homeschool.

Not a lot of things going on this week. Dh will purchase the scooter today. This will be used to ride, back and forth, to work. This will cut down on our gas bill no matter if it is 2 or 4 dollars a gallon. I might have to take dh to the place that sells the scooters this afternoon. Not sure. Hope you have a blessed day. I

Hurt foot

Posted in Unspecified

Our family had a wonderful weekend. We went to Olive Garden and shopping on Saturday. Sunday was a wonderful Church service (The message) and then DD and I went with an Aunt shopping. This was her idea and I felt that I should have stayed home. The Aunt starts telling people off at the store and the place to eat. Not fun. Other than this, it was very enjoyable (weekend).

Monday morning I woke up with the bottom of my foot hurting. I must have sprained/strained a muscle on Sunday. I had about 70 tomatos to make into sauce. Standing up for so long, did not help my foot. Today, I am in worse pain. This should teach me a lesson. Probably not. I am going to try and keep off the foot today. I am rolling around the kitchen in my office chair. No major work will get done today. (Is that a good thing or bad thing? lol.)

Today is another school day. Some issues have come up but we are dealing with them. Say  a pray for dd. Their is a need. Thanks. Hope you have a blessed day. I

Friday

Posted in Unspecified

Hello everyone. Hope you are having a wonderful day. On Wednesday, Our neck of the woods had horrible thunderstorms. We were without power for several hours. Dh had 10 hours of overtime because of this. He didn't get home until 2:30am. He had to get right back up and go out to work. Dh slept good last night. I believe he also felt better so I pray he has a wonderful day today. The overtime ( and savings) will be used to purchase a scooter. He will use this to go back and forth to work. We have discussed this for some time and have decided to purchase one in a few weeks. I will update on how this goes. (Dh's job is only 7 miles from our house)

Today will end the first week of school. I am changing around the schedule to put English in the morning. This is one subject that dd will need to be refreshed to work with. Her first spelling test will be in a few minutes. She only missed one on the pre-test so this should work out okay. I do give her extra words to challenge her brain. Maybe, I am challenging myself because I have to learn them, first.

I also have to go pick the garden this morning. It seems like we are off to a slow start this morning. I am not going to stress out about this. Just work with what I have. I hope to be able to pick pears this weekend. We were going to do this (already) but bad storms got in the way. God Bless. I

Tuesday

Posted in Canning Cooking

Today is the second day of school. DD is doing math now. Ds is playing in his room. A productive day so far.

We have been to the garden this morning. This was a break between classes. I have to do some freezing and canning today. Summer squash and tomatos have to be put up. Our neighbor gave us some peaches so they are on the counter waiting to rippen. He also told us to go and pick pears off his tree. We will go over on Saturday and start that project. Dh will do most of the outside work while I figure out what to do with the produce. Hope you have a great day. God Bless. I

School has started

Posted in Unspecified

What was I thinking? Just Joking. We went through all of the Bob Jones Orientation today and one spelling lesson. I really do have a slight headache. DD and I stopped between subjects and did other things. Ds had to be played with and cared for..... I have a "schedule" made out for our school and this will be adjusted in the next few weeks. It will depend on what works for us this year. The curriculium is different and better than what we have used in the past.

Our family is still attending the same Church for several weeks. So far this seems to be the right fit for our family. We are still in prayer.

We finished deep cleaning the house last week. This will give us some free time for the next two weeks. (I will just quick clean twice a week) When we start something new in our house (School), this seems to help my stress level. Hope everyone has a wonderful Monday. God Bless. I

New School Books

I finally ordered my curriculum on Monday (2:00 PM). I was thinking that it would come, by UPS, the next week. We were having supper on Tuesday and the UPS man delivered the 4 boxes. Praise The Lord. This will give me time to review the material before Monday. I had some other curriculum that I was going to use if the ordering was delayed. Now, I can use the Bob Jones material. When I opened the boxes, I went into curriculum overload.

Dh looked at all the boxes and told me that I would need a bookshelf. So, he went outside and built one. He used recycled wood and put the project together in less than an hour. It just fits nicely beside my computer station/dining room/school room. I hope you like the pictures. Dh will paint the bookcase whenever we take some time off from School. It will take some time to dry (not smell like paint) before we bring the book case into the house. Until then, we will use the bookshelf un-painted. What a blessing Dh is to our family.

The last few days, our Family, has been busy getting all of our projects done. We plan to start School on Monday and I like to start the School year with a deep-cleaned house. I plan on finishing the cleaning projects today and steam-cleaning the carpet tonight. This has to be finished today. I can not look at that carpet another day. (I guess I could if I was lazier. Lol.) Also, I will continue to look through the curriculum. I believe dd will enjoy 6th Grade. Have a blessed day. I

Library Day/Pic of Garden

Posted in Unspecified

The children and I are going to the library today. It seems like forever since we have been out of the house. Not really, but it seems that way. I would rather stay at home and put a bigger principal payment on the house.  Our family is still working on the goal to pay of the house early.

Our garden is doing wonderful. I canned some tomatos and also froze some. Today, after the library, I will be pickling watermelon rinds. (Our wonderful neighbor gave us three watermelons) I have never done this but today will be a first. This year I am canning more than I ever have. Next year, I hope to have a pressure canner and will start that task. I am hoping to find on at a yard sale. I have a picture of our garden. Dh and dd have done a great job on the garden.

Saturday Morning

Posted in Unspecified

I have a big to-do list this morning. I am waiting for ds and dh to wake up so I can start the day. Dh talked about getting an early start this morning but he is still asleep.

After supper, last night, we worked in the garden. Another bucket full of produce. God is good. In the freezer, I put up 8 more bags of squash and zucchini. Someone at dh's work gave him some corn. I put up 6 bags of corn. My hope this winter is to not buy any vegetables. We will see. I am going to can some tomatos soon. I want to can 42 pints of tomatos. Our watermelons are doing wonderful and will freeze some for the winter (have never done). This year, I am doing a lot with our produce. We have never had a garden this size and we are enjoying the rewards. Soon, we will buy our own tiller to use on our garden. I feel we will have a slightly bigger garden next year. I have to go out and document what plants we have so that I will have a reference for next year. I am already keeping track of the produce. Have a great day. God Bless. I

I forgot to mention that we are looking to buy a mopped/scooter. Does anyone have one? This will be for dh to ride back and forth to work. I

Getting ready for School

Posted in Unspecified

The next 2 weeks will be busy. Making sure that all of my housework are finished, freezing/canning, and getting ready for school. What fun. Well, some of it is fun. I am working on lesson plans and decorating my doors(computer cabinet) to reflect each child. I will post pictures in the next few weeks.

I am going to do some deep cleaning tomorrow. I am going to send the children outside with dh so I can get some things done. God Bless. I

Maybe Rain

Posted in Unspecified

We missed the bad storms that came to our part of the world. Rain would have been good but not the high winds. I am watering the garden this morning and after picking our bucket full of harvest. PTL! Everytime I put up vegetables, I am so thankful. The Lord is providing for my Family. In a few days,  I will be canning tomatos. Yah! I have a bunch of pint jars and hope to fill all of the jars this summer. Dh and I talked about getting some corn from the Farmer's Market. I can put this in the freezer for the winter. (I feel like a squirrel getting ready for the winter.)

Yesterday, I managed to clean the house and can salsa. This is Fire Salsa. (I put to many peppers in the salsa.) Oh well. Another mistake that I will use for something. I am always creating a dish from mistakes. I have a few things on my to do list today. I am getting the house ready for school (1 1/2 weeks) and getting stuff ready for a yard sale in a few weeks. Clean out the clutter and we will use the money to go to a concert. Hope everyone has a blessed day. I

I have canned a batch of fiesta salsa out of the Ball Book. I believe I added to many hot peppers so I will add cheese with the salsa (when used). If I make a mistake, I try and still reuse the item. I make all kinds of creations in my home. Some good and some bad. Oh well. I will take a break while ds takes a nap and then on to cleaning the house. Hope everyone is having a wonderful day. I

Early Monday Morning

Posted in Unspecified

What a long weekend. I don't know if anyone else felt this way, but to me it was sooo long. I'm not sure I got a lot accomplished but today I will make up for the laziness. We had a wonderful time at Church yesterday. This was the third time that we visited this Church. I will pray this week and talk to Dh about whether to continue to go.

At this moment, I am printing out lesson plans for the upcoming school year. I think dd (me too) is ready for school to start. I have purchased ds a few things for "school". He is so excited. DD and I cleaned out some of her old school supplies and she had a lot of extras. We put together DS a pencil box with pencils, crayons and such. He is so excited. This will help keep him occupied whenever DD needs my attention with school work. I will try to get the house "Spring" cleaned, again, before school starts. This will allow us more time to get into a routine of school. Our carpet needs to be cleaned so I am hoping that we will get everything done this week. DD might go to VBS, next week, so that will be a lot of late nights.

Yesterday afternoon was spent in the next big town. (About an hour away) Extended family had a cookout and the my children got to see all the cousins. They played and played and played. I hope that they sleep in a little. Not sure about Ds. We didn't get home until after 8:00 and that is late for me. (I like to be at home when the street lights come on. lol) I was able to go to Dollar Tree and pick up some cute school supplies and Wal-Mart. I am getting prepared for school. On the 18th, I will take the children school clothes shopping. (This really means shopping for socks and underwear because they have everything else). Hope everyone has a blessed day. I
