Chickens in the Suburbs?

Posted in Unspecified
I'd be curious to know if anyone has ever kept chickens in a neighborhood like mine.  I'd like to live in the country so that I'd have space to have chickens for the fresh eggs and keep bees for the honey and also have lots and lots of berry bushes of all kinds!  We are stuck here in the city, but we have a half acre lot.  If there are no ordinances against these kinds of things I might be willing to try.  It would be great hands-on learning for the kids (and myself).

Yep,

I had a flock of chickens in Portland, Oregon, well within city limits. I would strongly suggest checking the local laws and any covenants and restrictions for your neighborhood. I post about this subject on my blog a while back.

Good luck! Chickens are one of the joys of my life.

Peace,

Raymond

Joanne also had a helpful post on this a while back:

Hope this is helpful!

Also In Town...

We also live in the city. I dislike it profusely... but this is where God planted us. So I will bloom where I am!

We used to live in the country... This is actually the first house I lived in, like this. I used to wake up to the birds singing. There were deer in our backyard, a creek, berry bushes, etc...

Someday, maybe God will move us from here as well. Maybe I'll finally have "my big garden", privacy, peace and other country "perks". :-)

Just wanted to let you know... you're not alone! :-)
