Dreaming

I have been reading some of the entries and I am excited to see so many helpful things.  I see that a lot of people are very knowledgeable in different areas with a lot of insight.

I am still mostly in the dreaming stage of being able to achieve my goals.  I am trying to learn everything that I can about the things that I might be interested in for a home business and self sufficiency.  I want to raise chickens and maybe some goats.

I am also interested in herbal medicines and in growing Stevia.  I want to be self sufficient and then share with others.

I really love the idea of being able to grow almost all my family's food.  I love cooking and baking my own bread.  I don't have a grain mill yet.  I will have to wait until I can afford one.  Some day I even want to grow the wheat for our bread.

Right now I am living in town and we have been looking at property so that we can "enlarge our borders".  We need acreage for our 4 boys and our dreams.  We haven't found the right land yet.  We are in central Indiana only an hour away from Indianapolis and want to move to the west side of Indiana towards Illinois. We will also have to sell our house.

I love gardening. Unfortunately our neighbor's trees grew to shade the back yard where there isn't enough sunlight to grow a garden.  I planted herbs in my kitchen and vegetables in containers on my sunny enclosed front porch.  I saved half of the seeds I bought this year and put them in the freezer for next year.

I save seed and only buy organic seed and stay away from hybrid seed because I have heard that the major seed companies are starting to make hybrids that are not able to reproduce seed so that the consumer will have to buy seed from them every year.  All kinds of reproducing heirloom seeds have already been destroyed by these companies.  If we save our seed then we can stop this from happening.

Every day jobs are disappearing and big corporations have control of what we eat. I would rather have a say in what our future holds by learning all I can to live out our dreams.
