Water Everywhere But Not Much Drunk

Posted on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at 07:59

Well, my goal for today was to up my intake of water.  I did manage to do that but so far only 48 ounces which is probably close to half of what I'm supposed to have.

I don't have a scale so don't have any idea what I weigh - just that it's too much but I'm guessing that I should be drinking about 80 ounces of water today.

I will try to get another glass drunk which will put me at about 60 ounces.  At least that's better than none or 8 ounces!  I don't drink anything else except occasionally herbal tea when my daughter makes it for me so it's amazing I'm not a shrunk up prune.

No wrinkles yet but I'm sure they are lurking just waiting to pop out if I don't decide to stick to the drinking program.

I also tried to start an intestinal cleanse.  It is my understanding that a healthy intestinal tract is the foundation of a healthy body so thought this would be a good cleanse to start with especially since it takes a few months to really do a thorough cleanse at my age.

It is supposed to be good for the spare tire so common in middle age too.  I guess the belly stores the extra waste and the cleanse will allow the body to rid itself of the toxins.

So if you have a "gut" you might want to give it a try.

A pot belly precedes many diseases.  From Liver disorders to intestinal disorders to gout to heart attacks.  Don't need any of that.

I said I "tried" to start an intestinal cleanse because I discovered that instead of the whole psyllium husks that I was supposed to have I had obtained the whole seed.  Just didn't work.  Oh well, for those who are more together than I here's the directions for that cleanse:

Ingredients:
Whole psyllium husk (NOT the powder)
Blackstrap Molasses (optional)
warm Water

The psyllium husks provide fiber and lubrication for the bowels.  They expand in the body enabling them to gather up the fecal matter within and stuck to the intestinal walls.  I know it's pretty yukky to talk about but, well, take a look around at all the pot belly's walking around and maybe someone, hmmm, should.

The blackstrap molasses is a wonderful source of minerals and vitamins.  The benefit that comes from the molasses is first, of course, taste, and second, it is a bowel regulator and it also helps prevent constipation and colitis.  It has the added advantage of not digesting entirely in the stomach thereby entering the intestinal tract and it is consumed in the intestines.  Because of this, the nutrients are made available in the intestinal tract where they are needed to help with the cleansing process.

It is suggested to take the mix four times per day before meals.

First week:  1 level teaspoon whole psyllium husks, 1 teaspoon blackstrap molasses.  Dissolve in 8 to 12 ounces of  warm water.  Drink it right away and then follow up with another 8 to 12 ounces of water.

After the first week, use 1 level Tablespoon whole psyllium husks, 1 teaspoon blackstrap molasses.  All the other directions remain the same.

I've done this before but not very faithfully and not for very long.  It is not hard nor expensive to do.  It actually tastes pretty good.  Remembering to take it four times per day is the difficult part.  Everything else is easy.

Hopefully will start this by the end of the week.

First Things First

Posted on Monday, December 17, 2007 at 09:04

The main thing I would like to do in my countdown time is to improve my health.  One of the ways I need to do that is to lose weight.  I probably need to lose about 40 pounds.  Wow, that sounds awful but the last year or two the pounds have crept on and I'm not sure exactly why.

The first thing I'm going to implement in this regard is to up my water intake.  I probably only average about 2 glasses of water per day : (  I know, I know.

So, this week my goal is to have water available at all times as I heard that sipping it throughout the day is the best way to stay hydrated.

This will be hard for me to do, which is why I'm blogging to stay accountable!

Turning 50

Posted on Sunday, December 16, 2007 at 07:40

This blog is about turning 50.  Yikes!

I chose the template I did because I feel a bit like that dandelion seed - the years are blowing quickly away!

This blog will be about trying to stay accountable (even if it's to cyberspace!) to those things that I wanted to accomplish by the time I'm 50 but  the time is already too short!

We will be talking about diet, exercise, natural beauty tips all kinds of things.

I'd like to have as many friends as possible help me along the way.  If you're reaching toward 50 let me know.  Let's have fun together!
