In light of the fact that the U.S. has a major depression coming its way, I am curious as to the price of a Jersey cow. Does anyone know what I might expect to pay for a good Jersey? Also, where might I find one? I live in Colorado, but we mostly have meat cows here.
I hope you all are also preparing for the financial trials ahead. The parable of the ten virgins in Matthew 25 has been the Lords prod to me! Not that I'm suggesting that this is the end of the world, but we are to always be prepared for everything. My current favorite quote is "Over prepare, then go with the flow!"
Hi! I actually live in Durango, and we've been buying a gallon of raw milk for $5. each at a local farm that has 2 Jerseys.
I would definitely drive around looking for farms and feedstores... they're the ones who will sell things to people who are raising dairy cows and can keep your phone # on hand to share with those people.
Good luck!

I don't know about prices in CO, but here in Texas we paid $1800 for our first Jersey and $1700 for the second. I've seen them priced as high as $2300 for really good ones.
Both our cows were five years old, currently (then) in milk, and bred.
We live in beef country too and Jerseys ain't easy to come by. Luckily we found an all Jersey dairy about 3 hours from here that was willing to sell.
