Ever have one of those days where you feel more scattered than a squirrel that just dropped all of his acorns from the tallest branch just as a snowstorm approaches? Well that is how my day started, at 4 AM. We had an extremely unpleasant task to be accomplished today. We have several ponies, nearly all of them dear fruitful Sunshine’s offspring, and another young horse that needed to be gelded. For you city folks that means castrated. YUCK. You see horses are herd animals and usually there is one, yes ONE stallion to the herd, but we have   had, 11, yes ELEVEN up until this morning. So everyone old enough without reg papers (papers = breeding value) was castrated. Sorry sorry day for those boys. I don’t know why it bothers me so much, we have an Amish neighbor who does it for next to nothing and is perfectly humane. And there will be lots less hormones to deal with around here now. And the ponies who were allready well behaved and trained will now be safe for anyone’s child, and can be sold for top dollar. You see a stallion has one God given purose in life, to procreate. So even the most well behaved stallion has the possible potential to forget his manners sometimes and become unpredictible. So gelding takes care of that. Not everyone’s children are as rough and ready as mine.

Thankfuly Jim and two of our tough cowgirl daughters loaded them up and took them off, and just now called to say everyone equine is a little insulted but none the worse for wear and on their way home. Glad  that is over, messin with God’s plan of creation bothers me. But He did give us dominion over the animals to use for our purposes so I know it isn’t wrong,  just uncomfortable.
