At Home in Vermont

Saturday, September 23, 2006 - Progress on the Fast

The first day of my fast from tv was a little hard for me. I had two children in our daycare and couldn't even turn on a Charlie Brown video. It was a long day, but we did okay. It was beautiful outside so we spent quite a bit of time out there. The children were gone by 5:30.  However, I was not feeling too well by afternoon and actually became very ill by nightfall. Nicole (17) took very good care of me. She cleaned the kitchen and just sent me to bed. My nerves were a bit shaky. I don't think it had anything to do with the tv, because, personally, I barely watch it. (my one or two black-and-white movies a few times a week isn't that big a deal, right? -smiles). I realized that it was the many homemade cookies I ate and the candy bar. (sigh). I asked Nicole to make me a salad. She did. She is such a good daughter.....

I have been wanting to fast from our TV for quite sometime. At one point we didn't have a TV. I loved it. I didn't have to worry about what my DD was watching. I refuse to get the paper. I get God's World News weekly. So that is my news. And all I need for that. TV is a battle here. She wants to watch it all day. She knows she gets 1 hr a day and still it is a battle. Well I hope all goes well on your fast.
I am sorry you are not feeling well. Sugar does bad things to me at times!!

So often when we think of fasting, we think of food. But it is the other things - TV, movies, secular books - that distract us from our relationship with God. I have never really fasted, but I was without my computer and TV for a couple of months when we moved. And I was surprised that I really did not miss them that much. And did get a lot of Bible study and prayer done.

Blessings as you follow God's leading iin your fasting.

Well I have been enjoying reading your blog. Thanks for your kind words & your prayers. While I have been resting I have been re-reading all my issues of Shalom Bayit - & I also read your new 'young maiden monthly'...this is a lovely on-line magazine & as soon as its payday I will have to subscribe to both again. They are such a blessing to read. I especially love the home schooling articles & I enjoyed the housewifery to do list. I'm going to print my up & put it on my fridge... Looking forward to reading about how your fast is going. Take care
love Helen

I sent for a sample copy of your little magazine about a year and a half ago. I loved it, but then I lost it. I recognized your name when I read your comments on another blog. When I have more time later in the week, I am going to go back and read a few more of your posts.
Blessings to you,
Patti
