A Quiet Little Woman

A day in the life of this farmgirl

Whew, what a day!  It started out with scripture reading in Job this fine morning, helping to milk our dairy goat, then feeding the rabbits and just the usual morning stuff.  Then I spent some time on the computer looking on Joann's, trying to find material for a pioneer dress I'm going to make. I think I finally found some!  What is your opinion, should I do the paisley print or the purple flowers??

I watched some great GardenGirlTV movies and learned a lot about shearing, carding, spinning and knitting angora.  I'm VERY excited to shear/pluck one of my rabbits next week, then I'm going to breed her!  Then later this afternoon I went outside and cleaned a rabbit cage, put the poop in the compost bin, rinsed out the cage, and brushed his fur.  I've had quite a few people tell me that they are interested in buying some babies from me, so I'm thinking that I'll breed both of my does.  And actually, I think that one lady is going to trade some does for WEAVING LESSONS!!  What fun!

Our milk goat was bleating for me, so I decided that I'd go and visit her when I was finished.  So I went down there and was holding the baby, and I forgot to close the gate all the way... and Sophie escaped!  I decided that it wouldn't hurt us any to get some exercise, BUT then I couldn't get her to get back in her house!  It took me about 20 minutes to get her and the baby back in the shed!  She was getting kind of mad at me, and I had to pull her the whole way down... OH, my arm is SO sore!!   OH, and guess what else!  In the next little while we are getting Sophie's sister and one of her babies (as soon as she has them that is!), and then we just found the cutest little goat about 100 miles away that we are going to get too!  THEN we'll have 3 milking goats, and some of their babies!  Our homestead is just blooming under God's most gracious hand!

And to end the day, I made some sourdough bread.  I made the start a couple of weeks ago, and it makes the BEST sourdough bread!   We've been out for awhile, so I decided that I would make it tonight, and then I saw a sourdough variation for dill/walnut bread, so I made one loaf of that too.  I actually didn't have any soaked dehydrated walnuts out, so I used pumpkin seed instead!  It has to rise for 12 hours, so I'll bake it in the morning and I'll tell you how it turns out!  I tried hand kneading the dough instead of using the bosch, and it worked great!  I'm definatley getting some FARMGIRL muscles here!  I think that strong arms are some of the greatest things that someone can have!   Well, hope you enjoyed a  glimpse into a day in my life, it was a very calm one... I have a MARATHON day tomorrow so I better go wash the dishes AND get some rest!!

Alex ;)

Sounds like such a lovely day, Alex! I love both of those fabrics and think that either would make a beautiful dress. I'm more partial to reds, but the lighter floral is lovely, too! Be sure to share the finished product with us. :-)

While purple is my favorite color, I think the paisley print is prettier!
