A Quiet Little Woman

Angora Rabbits

Angora Rabbits… one of the newest additions to our little homestead!  (Bytheway, I didn't take the picture, our camera is broken!)  Angora Rabbits are a great addition to any homestead, because they are inexpensive to keep, you can keep them in a small area (even your house!) and they are SO cute!

Here are some facts about angora rabbits:

~ angora wool is 7 times warmer than sheep wool and artic adventurers use angora thermal underwear when they go adventuring!

~ from one rabbit you can get enough wool in one year to make a sweater!

~ angora wool doesn’t itch like sheep wool, so you can forget about wool allergies!

~ plus in addition to having a great, adorable pet, you can spin the fiber and make home “grown”, home spun, home knit creations!!

I’ve wanted angoras for quite awhile, and just about 2 weeks ago I called a lady that lives about 3 hours away to ask if she would have any babies to sell in a little while.  WELL… she was selling her adults and even coming down my way that very day!  So I got 3 English angora rabbits!  They were a little pricey, about $75 a piece, but they came with the cages, water bottles and feeders too!  I was worried that they wouldn’t adjust well, but they are doing marvelously.  I was able to buy 2 does and a buck so I could breed them, and I plan on having babies in May sometime.  And guess what!  Angora wool sells for $7 an ONCE!!  Quite pricey, but OH SO SOFT!!  I named my rabbits Zipporah (named after Moses’ wife, a Hebrew name meaning “little bird”), Knightly (named after my very favorite Jane Austen male character from Emma!), and Azalie (which is another Hebrew named meaning God has protected).

I am so grateful to Heavenly Father for providing me with these rabbits!  I know that if we just WAIT (something that is very hard for me!) and patiently TRUST in HIM, HE will provide!!

I love angora bunnies! But living in Texas it just gets to hot for the furry little darlings. Enjoy them.

Oh these are soooo cute! Do they make good pets and how on earth do you harvest the angora fibers to spin. I am in love with this idea for part of my urban homestead. We live in a rual area but still in the city, we have one store a restraunt a post office and a bank. But i am sure no one could object to a bunny or two. Where do you live. And are you going to be selling these little ones. What a blessing!
