Tracing master sewing patterns

Over the years I've traced patterns using parchment paper, wax paper and sections of commercial patterns that I didn't need anymore.  It was okay but not that great.  What worked better was to use landscaping cloth or wallpaper and cut the largest size of the master pattern, then the smaller one, down to the smallest size.  That worked well but I didn't have a master pattern left if a piece was lost or a child accidentally cut too much fabric.

I found the greatest solution:  Carriff sewing fabric.  It's funny to say that a land drainage filter company makes this cloth.  It's advantages are that it's see-through enough to trace with, sturdy enough to sew with, it clings to most fabric and can be used to interface a garment.  At 25.99 for a roll of 36" x 300' it's well worth the price if you modify or trace multi-size patterns.  Narrower widths are less expensive.  I've heard that it's available at Lowes but locally I can only find the 4" sleeve width.  I think that some have found it at Home Depo.

Thanks for sharing that..I've never heard of the stuff.. I've never heard of using some of the things you named off..Wax paper? Why not..I've started to trace out some patterns because as I've started sewing again the patterns they make today the tissue is terrible.. I do have a problem trying to figure out sizes when I cut them..I've never thought of cutting the larger size first.. But what do you do with all your patterns when you have cut them out? Thats what I need to know..I bought a pattern box but they are pricey..Any suggestions you can give me I'm all ears and alot of heart..Thank you.
I read so many blogs I forget what I read where so if you have anything to add please send an email or private message..

Thank you !!!!
Yesterday I cut out a pattern that was size 7 to 14. I needed the size 10. I cut it out at size 10 and now I will not be able to use it larger sizes, such a waste.
I have never thought of cutting out the master pattern. I will do that from now on.

Wow...isn't funny how we find items to use other than their intended use!? And how well they work for our use instead!

Has anyone ever tried newspaper for tracing patterns...I know the inkprint may rub off onto the fabric...but it should wash off in the laundry. Just curious, because I am teaching myself how to sew using CLP home ec. course and need some tips for patterns.

Anyway, will be checking out this website...thanks so much. BTW how is the house coming along? Any new pictures of the progress?

Blessings, Kelly in MI
