Brownie Cameras

Posted in Brownie Cameras

I have added two new cameras to my collection. Once again I will share an ad and the brief history information on these to cameras. I will also share a photo of mine and how much I paid for them.

This is both of the together.

  Kodak Brownie Starflash (Black model)

This is my "Brownie Starflash" camera. Five models of this camera were made. The american model, "Black", the french models, "Blue, Red, and White" and then there was the Coca~Cola promotional model. This camera was introduced in March of 1957 and was discontinued in June of 1965. The original price of this camera was $8.50. Today the black model is worth $7-$15. The blue, red and white models are worth $13-$20. The Coca~Cola model is worth $100-$120. I spent $5.00 on it at our local Antique shop.

This is an ad from a Kodak promotional in 1957.

Kodak Brownie Bull's-Eye (Black model)

This is my "Brownie Bull's-Eye" camera. Two models of this camera were made. The black model and the gold model. This camera was introduced in August of 1954 and was discontinued in October 1960. The black model was originally $13 and the gold was $15. Today the black model is worth $12-$18 and the gold is worth $18-$30. I paid $7.50 at our local Antique shop. (No ad for this was found.)

I hope you enjoyed looking at these. In the words of Aristotle, "Happieness depends upon ourselves."

Sincerely,

Brownie Cameras

Posted in Brownie Cameras

I know that many enjoy the posts about my antiques and I have been neglecting them lately.

I like to collect "Kodak Brownie" cameras. I only had one until my dear friend Maddie had found these two. They are not always easy to find at a good price and most people do not like to sell them once they have found them.

~The first brownie camera was made in 1900 as the box camera and later it was a folding camera and went back to a box camera in the 30's. They stopped making the brownie in about 1963. There are over a hundred different models of brownie cameras. The brownie was named because Pamler Cox who wrote the "Brownies" series for "Ladies home Journal" promoted Kodak cameras. The last brownie camera ever made was the "Anniversary Brownie" in 1980 after 20 years of being forgotten, and is once again a forgotten model of camera.~

I will start from oldest to newest.

This is all three of them lined up.

This is my "Kodak Brownie Flash Six-20" (This is missing its flash and I need to purchase a new one).(Sorry it came out blury, it was hard to get one this good.)

This is the ad for the "Six-20"

This camera was introduced in July 1946 and discontinued in January 1955. Its original price was six dollars and is now worth anywhere from eight to fifteen dollars. I spent $7.50 at the GoodWill.

This is my "Kodak Brownie Hawkeye Flash Model".

This is an ad for the "Hawkeye". This ad was from a copy of "Life Magazine", January 31st, 1955 (the day and year my Father was born).

This camera was introduced in May of 1949 and discontinued in July of 1961. The Original price for the camera was $5.50 and the flash was $7.00. Now the worth of just the camera is $10-$15. I purchased camera and flash for $10.00 from the GoodWill.

This is my "Kodak Brownie Holiday Flash".

This is an ad for the "Holiday". This ad is from 1955.

This camera was introduced in October of 1953 and discontinued in April of 1962. Its original price was $5.00 and is now worth $8-$15. My Grandmother bought it new in the 1950's and it was there family camera until it was given to my Mother as a teenager in the 1970's.

I hope you enjoyed this entry and I will post again on Monday. In the words of Christina Rossetti, "Better by far you should forget and smile than you should remember and be sad."

Sincerely,
