• Sat 3 Jan 2009 - Salvation is from The Lord
Where would I be without my precious Lord Jesus. Lost and alone in a hostile world.
Salvation is from The Lord
This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance (and for this we labor and strive), that we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, and especially of those who believe.
1 Timothy 4:9,10 NIV

Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
John 3:3-7 KJV

• Fri 2 Jan 2009 - In Touch Daily Devotional........... Effective Prayer
Jan 2, 2009
Effective Prayer
Mark 11:24-25
John 14:14 reads, "If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it." People sometimes interpret this to mean that any request ending with the words "in Jesus' name, amen" will automatically be fulfilled.
Yet basing our entire concept of prayer on one isolated verse would lead to a skewed perspective. It is also important to consider . . .
Our Fellowship With God. For God to hear and answer prayers, we must first be saved from our sin through the redeeming blood of Jesus. Once we have trusted Christ as Savior, God will hear us only when we walk in righteousness before Him. Of course, He understands our weakness and doesn't expect perfection. But if we knowingly continue in sin and fail to repent, He will not listen.
Our Request. For some people, ending prayers with "In Jesus' name, amen" can seem like a magic charm, but nothing can force God's hand. This saying did originate from a good motive, though: the desire to ask only for what is consistent with Jesus' character. When we ask, we should pray with faith, believing that God is able and will do whatever is in His will. And we should willingly submit our desires to Him.
Our Motive. The Lord won't say yes to prayer that will hurt us or His purpose. When we bring supplications before Him, it is important to check our motive. Is our goal to glorify God and let others see Him in us? Or is our motive selfish, greedy, or impure?
Our heavenly Father tells us to pray. And He will answer when our hearts are pure. |

• Mon 15 Dec 2008 - God-Pleasing Generosity ...Dr Charles Stanley
God-Pleasing Generosity
2 Corinthians 8:1-7
Paul's second letter to the Corinthian church praises the Macedonian believers at Philippi for their generosity. Despite deep poverty and great troubles, they desired to bless others materially. From their example, we know God is pleased when we give . . .
1. According to divine revelation. The Lord has revealed in Scripture how we are to live. He wants us to base our decisions on biblical principles rather than on our own thinking. Looking solely at a paycheck or bank balance before determining the size of a donation is relying on "self," not trusting God.
2. Out of our need. The Macedonians were poor, but they didn't let that keep them from contributing. They gave out of the little they had. The widow who gave her last two copper coins was praised for her offering to the Lord (Mark 12:42-44). We don't need to have extra money in order to give.
3. To those who spiritually nourish us. The Bible tells us to bring our gifts to the local church, where it can be used to further
God's work. The apostle Paul and others were able to evangelize because of the support provided by the church in Jerusalem. Recognizing that they owed those believers a debt, the Macedonian Christians desired to give something back.
Human reasoning tells us that we cannot part with our funds when debt seems too large or income too small. But the Scriptures tell us to trust the Lord to provide for our needs (Phil. 4:19)--and to give generously. Are you living according to these principles? |

• Tue 2 Dec 2008 - TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT -- This is great
TODAY'S VERSE from HEARTLIGHT -- http://www.heartlight.org/
--\/------------------------------------------------------------------
December 2, 2008
VERSE:
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the
renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and
acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
-- Romans 12:2
http://www.SearchGodsWord.org/desk/?query=Romans+12:2&translation=kjv
THOUGHT:
Sooner or later we all have to make a decision: Will I be a
nonconformist? Will I refuse to be squeezed into the mold of the
world? (J.B. Phillips terminology.) Will I be part of a Christian
counter-culture? (John R.W. Stott terminology.) Will I be God's own
person, an alien and an exile in the world, put here to have a
redemptive influence? (The apostle Peter's terminology.) Jesus
simply calls us his disciples. Bottom line: until we are really
ready to cross the line and live totally for the Lord, we're not
going to be able to fully recognize God's will for us. There are no
arm-chair quarterback Christians. There are no sideline disciples.
There are no back-seat driver Christians. We either chose the
Lordship of Jesus, or else we reject it. So what's your decision?
PRAYER:
Holy God, I believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior. I
believe that he came to earth as a human, lived an exemplary life
of grace and power, and died for my sins so I could live for you,
and with you, forever. Please forgive me, O God, for the times that
I have hedged on my commitment to you and flirted with the
darkness. I want to live for you with passion, joy, and
fulfillment. I want to be transformed to be like Christ. In his
name, Jesus the Lord, I pray. Amen.

• Tue 25 Nov 2008 - Giving Thanks..Psalm 118

Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good!
For His mercy endures forever.
Let Israel now say,
“His mercy endures forever.”
Let the house of Aaron now say,
“His mercy endures forever.”
Let those who fear the LORD now say,
“His mercy endures forever.”
I called on the LORD in distress;
The LORD answered me and set me in a broad place.
The LORD is on my side;
I will not fear.
What can man do to me?
The LORD is for me among those who help me;
Therefore I shall see my desire on those who hate me.
It is better to trust in the LORD
Than to put confidence in man.
It is better to trust in the LORD
Than to put confidence in princes.
All nations surrounded me,
But in the name of the LORD I will destroy them.
They surrounded me,
Yes, they surrounded me;
But in the name of the LORD I will destroy them.
They surrounded me like bees;
They were quenched like a fire of thorns;
For in the name of the LORD I will destroy them.
You pushed me violently, that I might fall,
But the LORD helped me.
The LORD is my strength and song,
And He has become my salvation.
The voice of rejoicing and salvation
Is in the tents of the righteous;
The right hand of the LORD does valiantly.
The right hand of the LORD is exalted;
The right hand of the LORD does valiantly.
I shall not die, but live,
And declare the works of the LORD.
The LORD has chastened me severely,
But He has not given me over to death.
Open to me the gates of righteousness;
I will go through them,
And I will praise the LORD.
This is the gate of the LORD,
Through which the righteous shall enter.
I will praise You,
For You have answered me,
And have become my salvation.
The stone which the builders rejected
Has become the chief cornerstone.
This was the LORD’s doing;
It is marvelous in our eyes.
This is the day the LORD has made;
We will rejoice and be glad in it.
Save now, I pray, O LORD;
O LORD, I pray, send now prosperity.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD!
We have blessed you from the house of the LORD.
God is the LORD,
And He has given us light;
Bind the sacrifice with cords to the horns of the altar.
You are my God, and I will praise You;
You are my God, I will exalt You.
Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good!
For His mercy endures forever. |

• Tue 19 Aug 2008 - Hope in the Midst of Suffering ..Charles Stanley
Hope in the Midst of Suffering
2 Corinthians 12:7-10
We all go through distressing times in life. These seasons of suffering may be brought about by relational difficulties, financial hardships, or other trials. But as God's children, we can take heart in knowing that our pain is not wasted.
Sometimes our pain is for the eternal benefit of others--the Lord uses it to reveal the genuineness of our faith so that others might see it and be drawn to His Son (1 Peter 1:7). By the way we respond to adversity, our belief in Jesus becomes visible to those around us. Believers will be encouraged, and seekers will ask us questions about our faith.
At other times, God uses trials to teach us to obey--Hebrews 5:8 tells us that even our Savior learned obedience from the things He suffered. Another purpose of hardship is to broaden our ministry. The apostle Paul's imprisonment let him minister among the guards, resulting in the salvation of many.
Difficulties can also be the Lord's tool in preventing a problem from happening--an unidentified ailment kept Paul from becoming prideful. When disobedience threatens our walk with God, He will take whatever steps are needed to draw us back to Him. He may allow a need to remain unmet or something cherished to be removed. His purpose is that we confess our sin and return to Him.
We may not know the reasons for our heartaches, but the wisest choice is to trust God. After all, He who saved us through the sacrifice of His Son has promised to use our suffering to bring about eternal good (Rom. 8:28).
