Homeschool Memoirs: Making A List

http://homeschoolblogawards.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/hm-19.png
I was just thinking today about making up a goal list for 2009! Funny how Jocelyn seems to always know just what I am thinking and uses it for the Homeschool Memoirs! I am really glad for this week's theme: Making A List

This week I want to set our minds on setting some goals for next year, whether personal, for the whole family, or for school.

Before I get to 2009's list, I want to share the list from 2008 and what got accomplished on it.
Get into God’s Word everyday. I was able to do this some of the year! It really was neat because I kept a journal with my Bible so I could write down passages that were intriguing to me or that I wanted to remember!

Talk with God daily. I really learned this year that we can't just pray to God, we have to TALK with him and have a conversation with Him. I am really glad how I did it this year, but I am going to do it even more in 2009!

Be a better example. This will never be complete! but I hope that this past year I have been an example of Christ to everyone I know!

Work on my shortcomings. This too will never be complete as I am human! but God is still working with me on them!

Finish high school. Which I completed this past May! WOOT! :)

Get a laptop. Got my BEAUTIFUL Dell Vostro 1500 for Graduation!

Get the wireless network set up
. That was so fun to learn how to do in February.

Sell the Horses
. While they are gone, we didn't get our money from the person who bought them.

Lose weight and get in better shape. I am not sure about any change on this one! :P

I want to see my Great Grandpa and Grandma saved
. In September we found out that they really did know what salvation was and had prayed and asked forgiveness for their sins! HALLELUJAH!

I really want our house finished. While it isn't finished yet, it is on its way and so very close to being complete! 7years is a long time!

Learn CSS. I have learned this, but not mastered it yet!

Learn Photoshop CS3. Same thing! Working on it!

Scrapbooks caught up. Oh... and another year behind. I didn't even get my scrapbooks out! I would really love to though!

Learn to play guitar. Unfortunately I still don't know how to play!

Become a better seamstress. Never took the time to learn this year!

Here are my 2009 goals so far:
Get into God’s Word everyday.

Talk with God daily.

Work on all my short comings.

Get on a schedule and stick to it better.

Lose weight and get in better shape by exercising everyday!

Read and accomplish The Love Dare. (I won from Art of Eloquence!)

Buy Fireproof the movie. (Comes out January 26th! WOOT!)

To see Growing In Grace Magazine in print form!

Help the widow and fatherless I know.

I want to learn Spanish, Hebrew, PHP, and CSS fluently.

Learn to play the guitar, piano and maybe the drums.

Learn to sew better! I want to learn to sew better so I will be able to
teach my girls how to sew really well.

Learn to crochet and make special things for my family.

I would like to make myself a new quilt. I made one in 2005, and it was my first time sewing so its not the best.

Master Photoshop CS3.

Learn more about photography and become a better photographer!

Get my scrapbooks caught up to present date!

I am sure I will be adding to it as the year progresses and I grow. I am really looking forward to the coming year! I know God will be doing amazing things in my life and I am fired and ready for them!

Ahh... food! I love food! I talk about it all the time on Twitter & Facebook! Seriously I love food! :) I am pretty excited I can share my love of food with you this week as its the Homeschool Memoirs theme:
This week I want to invite you to share one of your favourite winter treats. A treat you look forward to making when the snow falls and include the recipe for it so others can try it out.
This theme got me to thinking... I don't really have a special food that I eat in the winter... except for peanut brittle. During the winter months is the only time people give us it, so I guess it can be called my winter treat. I have never made peanut brittle, so I don't have a recipe of my own. So if anyone has a really good one, leave me a comment with it in it, so I can think about making myself some peanut brittle! :)
Here is a Traditional Peanut Brittle recipe from The Nut Factory:
2 cups sugar
1 cup light corn syrup
1 cup water
2 cups raw Spanish peanuts
1/2 tsp. salt
2 Tbsp. butter
2 tsp. baking soda

Heat and stir sugar, syrup and water in a heavy 3-quart saucepan until the sugar dissolves. Add salt. Cook over medium heat to soft ball stage (234 degrees). Add peanuts at 250 degrees. Cook to hard crack stage (290 degrees), stirring often. Remove from heat.

Quickly, stir in butter and soda. Beat to a froth for a few seconds. Pour at once onto 2 well-buttered 15-1/2x10-1/2x1-inch pans, spreading with spatula. If desired, cool slightly and pull with forks to stretch thin. Break up when cold.

Yield: About 1-1/2 pounds of peanut brittle.

The Homesteading Carnival #64: The Proverbs 31 Woman Edition

Thank you for joining me this week for another amazing edition of The Homesteading Carnival. I had such a great time going through all these great submissions! I am so glad I was able to feature yours, if you submitted one!

I had a really hard time figuring out what theme I wanted to use for my edition, and finally asked Mama if she had any ideas. She threw me some and one of them was Proverbs 31 Woman. I thought about that and didn't really think I wanted to do it, so I kept thinking about another theme. Finally got out my bible to read the scripture to see how I could use it as my theme.
So without anymore talking, er, typing, here is how being the Proverbs 31 woman relates to The Homesteading Carnival!

Proverbs 31:14
She is like the merchants' ships; she bringeth her food from afar.

Dora Renee' Wilkerson found a Surprise Chocolate Fudge recipe that Melinda of The Jud-King Family shared. The secret ingredient: pinto beans!
Abi who lives on lighter side has a wonderful recipe for some Banana Nut Butterscotch Muffins.

Proverbs 31:16
She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.

Kathi who lives at Oak Hill Homestead shares their end-of-summer wrap-up of activities Around the Homestead. So much to do when you live on a homestead!
Jennifer Bogart who has a Quiverfull Family knows that an early frost means bringing in the harvest. So they have their Pic(k) of the Day, September 05, 2008 with a cute picture for you to see!

Stephanie who wants to Stop the Ride!
has some Simple Pleasures TT#28 for you to think over and enjoy around your homestead this week!
Uncommon Joe took a Trip To The Zoo and got some amazing shots of some really neat animals!

Proverbs 31:27
She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
Stacy who is Delighting in the Days.... has a great kitchen tip for us as we bring in our harvests: How to Peel a Peach.
Ivory Soap who has a Little House in the Suburbs
shares the step by step process of How to Raise Backyard Laying Chickens.

Larry Bogart who makes sure to Measure Twice, Cut Once was having trouble with Pocket Gophers , so he figured out how to trap them.

Stephanie who has Adventures in the 100 Acre Wood has decided to Save the Bees. They took a field trip out to a beehive and she learned a lot about bees and why they are disappearing!
Surfer Sam shares a lot of information on The Secret Lives of Bees. Honey, Health and Harvests and why its so important we keep the bees around!

Proverbs 31:18
She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.
Miss Emily from the time that has elapsed has a really cute notebook that is easy to make . . . easy to use.
Sheri who lives in The Shades of Pink has a fun little organizer that she made from things around her home!

Proverbs 31:13
She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.
Erica Burgan who is The Sojourner decided to make an An Old Fashioned Sock Monkey for her nephew's birthday!

Proverbs 31:19
She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.

H0MEFree who has the Marvelous Mud Washing Machine gives a great tutorial with pictures on how to Sew diapers and diaper wraps.

HowToMe wants to know if anyone else stores toys and seasonal clothing in plastic trash sacks? Well, after being given this tip from her neighbor, she changed. She found out How To Easily Make a Storage Sack from a pillowcase.

Proverbs 31:20
She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.

Homesteader Belle wants to share a new site she found called Goods4Girls. The site will accept donated items for girls who don't have the supplies they need as a woman!

Proverbs 31:28
Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.

Jacque who is Walking Therein is excited because LucyLillie is Potty Training. She shares what is working for her and some great tips!

Jocelyn who has A Pondering Heart is giving away a copy of the newest Chuck Black book: Sir Kendrick and the Castle of Bel Lione. Head over and enter for your chance to win before September 10th!  Here are more of some of the Coolest Contests

Proverbs 31:17
She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.

Please remember to pray this week for the Drews who lost their precious Christian on August 26th. Also remember the Lirettes who lost their beloved daddy back on May 11th. Both need your prayers and support as their go on in life without their loved ones! Here are more Prayer requests.

I hope you enjoyed this edition! Please let me know what you though of it! If would you be so kind as to blog about The Proverbs 31 Woman Edition of The Homesteading Carnival, I would greatly appreciate it!
