The Homesteading Carnival #27: Newness Edition
I am so glad you decided to join me this week for The Homesteading Carnival #27: Newness Edition.
With it just being a new month and since there are many new things to try and happening, I thought that the newness theme was the way to go. We have some really wonderful "new" entries this week and I am really excited to share them.
So without further adieu... let the "newness" begin!!
First things first... “The Baby Was Born!” so...“Drumroll please... Announcing...” Susanna Hope Suarez was born on November 27th to Paul and Gena Suarez, Publishers of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine.
Paulie has been doing an excellent job of posting pictures and “Baby Videos!” and some updates on how Auntie and Susanna are doing. He finally got to “Hold the Baby” after 3 days of just looking at her and admiring how cute she is.
Go over and congratulate them all and watch the precious videos of Susanna. Please remember them in prayer also.
Another “newness” is a “new” month. Amy, who is a SimpleFolk shares her thoughts about “The First Day of December” and how things are going there on her homestead.
Speaking of December, there are many ways we can celebrate Advent and Christmas. High Hopes Academy shares about “Our Advent Journey” and what they do for it.
Kerimae also shares her “Advent” celebrations. She has some great ideas and links for advent also.
Kim talks about how you can have a “Homemade CHRISTmas” just by doing most of your Christmas stuff yourself.
CountryLife shares “A Different Christmas Poem” that was sent to her from a soldier in Iraq who doesn’t get to share this Christmas with his family.
Rashel has a really great post that asks “Do you do the santa thing?” She explains many things about why they don’t do it.
With Christmas and Advent fast approaching, there is much cooking to be done.
But before I get to cooking and baking, I have to show you what Hidden Haven Homestead does to show that “It's That Time Again…” This is a “new” thing to me, and I am sure you will sure get a kick out of this. Haha…
Eyebright was so excited last year because she could say, "Finally! Baby Goats!" She had been waiting for her goat to go into labor, and now has a picture of the long-awaited baby goats. Read her story of her goat's delivery.
OK… some “new" recipes to try for the holidays…When you are cooking and baking, make sure you start your cooking days for the holidays off with these “Delicious Homemade Rolls & Flax Seed Breakfast Muffins” from NaturalMama. Healthy and tasty will help you start your day off right. ; )
Homemade Simplicity has a "Ham, Green Beans And Potatoes" recipe that will keep you warm and full this winter. I actually happen to love this dish... well minus the ham as I don't eat pig. But it is still delicious and wonderful for a cold winter day
What would be lovely to go along with your ham, green bean and potatoes?? That would be Jill's Potato Rolls!! She has a wonderful little story and recipe about them and how they love to make them around the holidays and share them with their landlady.
If you are looking for some “new” and great desert recipes to thrill your family with, try GrannyG’s “White Christmas Jewel Fudge”. The name even goes with the spirit of Christmas and your family is sure to love it.
Also try GrandmaRosie’s “Chewy Coconut Almond Bars Mix in a Jar”. Something easy that you can make as a desert for Christmas dinner or to give as a gift for the baker in your life.
Gloria of Faith, Family, Farm has a “Banana Cream Pie ~ Step by Step” for you to try. It is a really easy recipe to make and is even easier because she does have it step by step. Don’t you just love it when you find a great recipe and it’s easy to make too.
Chas has an ”Egg Nog” that is homemade and healthy. Something you can make and curl up by the roaring fire and sip with your little children this winter as you celebrate Jesus’ birth and tell them the story of how He came into our world.
Don't you just love it when there are “Littles in Your Kitchen”?? Christi shares what you can do to help them while they are helping you. She also has some great ideas on “Working with Littles” to compliment Littles in Your Kitchen.
Christina has had "Sew Much Fun" with her children. They have been sewing little projects and entertaining guests. Such cute little projects too.
Oak Hill Homestead has been “Spinning my wheels” getting things cleaned and in order. She also answers the question of being a homestead wife and why it is important.
Tabletop Homestead has some “Covert Homesteading Tactics, and. . .” what else has been going on over at their homestead. She has been doing a lot of work at her homestead, not to mention taking care of sick family. Let’s keep her family in prayer as they begin to get better from what ever has been making them sick. In Jesus’ name.
Speaking of praying… I have some “new” requests that you can all join in prayer with me…
Jeannie has “A Simple Prayer Request” that she would love prayer for. Her husband is the request. He is just getting into the Word and she is praying for his salvation. Let’s join with her in prayer and lifer her up.
Also, the Urban Homemaker knows that “Life is Fragile, Count your blessings....”. She has shared some stories of some families that desperately need prayer. Please go by and read about them. She is also offering a book by Nancy Campbell if you leave a comment sharing how you have helped someone in need.
Speaking of books, we need to watch out for “new” books that come out BirdLady has a !Warning! about “The Golden Compass” that you should read. She learned the hard way about it.
Here are some “new” thoughts on some subjects that are in our lives…
RellaMom has a really sweet story of how she got to share with her little boy about what Jesus did “For ME!?” That is a precious memory. It is awesome to me how God allows us special moments to share Jesus with our little children, so they understand His love for us.
Emily, one of the Homesteading Sisters, has a really great article about “Heroes”. She watched a movie and it got her thinking about who she would call a Hero. Can you guess who it is??
Four 'n' Twenty who enjoys Simple Pleasures has “A Thoughtful Cheesecake”. He shares what his favorite Australian dishes are and answers, "What do you eat in Australia?"
I have found a “new” passion and love…ORGANICS!! And also Naturals, and yes there is a difference. I have found some really good articles about organic for this carnival that I am so happy to share with you.
Keeper of the Home talks about what the difference and comparison is of “Local vs. Organic”. Really neat article to read.
And SimpleLifeMom has found a “Organic Food Co-op” in her area. She shares how buying in bulk is much better than buying normally. That would be really great if I could find one in our area.
1TreePatch has a wonderful list of “Honey & Cinnamon Cures” that doctor’s don’t want you to know about. Honey is just about a cure for everything. Really it is. We use honey a lot when we are feeling sick.
Kim shares her “Favorite recipes and household cleaning recipes” that are natural. Looks pretty good to me.
Jocelyn was so excited she finally got around to "Making Soap!" This is her first time and she has a photo essay to go along with her detailed account about how easy it really is to make goat milk soap.
Faith Farm has some “Solar Panel Info” about how solar panels are a huge help with your energy bill and keeping your home warmer and helping the environment.
A Work In Progress got to take an “Aromatherapy Class” at her local co-op and she learned how much oils really make a difference and how long they have been used in society.
And, one last thing before I end this really fun carnival is... Christina has an "Exciting Announcement" that she wants to share with you. Please go check it out. You will be glad you did. ; )
I hope you enjoyed this week’s carnival of “newness and I hope these links will help you this holiday season.
May you be blessed and come closer to your family and God everyday as you go on your Learning Experience.
As Always,
!! !!
