A Girl's Gotta Dream!
Today's question on the front porch:
What is your favorite pet or farm animal ~ either now or in the past?
This one is too hard. All pets I have had have been special to me for one reason or another and as my oldest daughter would say, it wouldn't be "FAIR" to pick just one!

So I got to thinking about an animal we would like to have "someday". Our youngest daughter really started it all by being a horse lover from day one. While I imagine most little girls that like horses dream about getting something small like maybe a shetland pony......our girl dreams BIG. Somewhere along the line of horse study she determined that it was a draft horse that she wants. They are beautiful horses, and we also began to imagine how helpful it would be to have a properly trained draft horse to help skid logs out of the woods or even out of the harder to access parts of our property.
We have a lot of learning to do first, not to mention a house to build and fences to put up, but we like to help her keep the dream alive.
This past weekend was our county fair and we found someone there who was in the parade with their Belgian pulling a buggy. Before the parade they let Mara sit in the buggy and then towards the end of the parade invited her to ride on the horses back. She was in horse heaven so I'm posting a few pictures of her big moment.
Can you see that grin?

Isn't that one beautiful horse?

She should have one don't you think?

Someday.....

?????Maybe one of these years the mystery gift will be for little Mara. Tell her to keep her fingers crossed and lots of hugs and kisses for Grandpa might not hurt!! She definitely looks very comfortable on the back of that horse. Tell Mara that good things come to those who wait!!

Hi, sweet friend, your baby looks grand and right at home on that horse. I hope your house plans include a big barn for a friend like this.... I see your blogging block has passed! Hope you are enjoying your day, the weather looks beautiful in Montana... and I like the new colors on your blog. Fall has great graphics, doesn't it? -Chris

Hey I love what you have done with your site. It looks so fallish now. I think your daughter looks absolutely perfect on that horse!!!! Why not build a stable and get 6 horses? That would be one for each of you and one for packing. I am sure that Sam will rush right out and do that huh? Have a great day.

what a gorgeous horse! and what a gorgeous memory for her!
Thanks for your comment........the whole saga would have definately played out differently had my sons found what that man dumped in our creek - I would probably be in jail!! I also wanted to ask him, "Does your minister know your little secret?"......the whole experience still haunts me some days - but I know it all has happened for a reason - reasons beyond my ability to see His ultimate plan; and that's okay.
I'm sure there are lots of small towns with dirty little secrets - it was just a bit to close to home for me and mine!
I imagine it is really autumn up where y'all are - we're still in the 80's down here - but looking forward to cooler temps by month's end....hopefully.
Blessings!

Hi Darcy! Thanks for the encouraging comments about MOPS on my blog!
Looks like you're a true homesteader...I'm a mere wannabe. We dream of owning a big old farmhouse with acreage one day, and we'd like to farm corn and peaches as well as grow and raise most of our own food.
I am particularly interestes in farming goats, pigs, and chickens, and perhaps owninig a dairy cow or two. There is a big "black market" for goat's milk in my area (Western Colorado). I say black market because it is illegal to advertise it because of the non pasteurization.
I can't say I share your enthusiasm about horses...I'm deathly allergic!
I look forward to reading more on your blog!

About Me
My husband and I along with our 3 children, moved from Iowa to Montana 3 years ago fulfilling a long time dream of living in the mountains. Last summer we purchased and moved onto our bare land and are currently living in our home made cabin which has evolved from a shed to a barn to our cabin and future guest house. The foundation for what we now call "The big house" is dug and waiting for our next burst of energy!
