Federal I.D. Numbers for Chickens?
S.S. # for your Horse?

What if you lost the freedom to own a horse?

What if you could be fined, have your horse taken from you, or even go to jail for not registering your farm and your pony? What if to own a chicken, goat, pig, sheep, horse or cow meant that you had to:
  • register your farm with the government,
  • acquire a national I.D. number for each animal,
  • pay to do these things,
  • or else, be in violation of federal government law?
  • Oh, yeah, if you take your horse somewhere for a trail ride, you'll have to report it to the government.
But they're not forcing anything, right? Isn't this is a purely voluntary system?

For now. By January 2008, though, if you've got an animal or farm, it better be registered or you'll be breaking the law if you own even one unregistered chicken. Why?

Their excuse is "disease prevention." The NAIS aims to track every animal to "maintain the health of the national herd". What "national herd?" What diseases?

  • There has been no Foot and Mouth Disease in the US for 70 years.

  • BSE (Mad Cow Disease) has not ever been contracted by a human. BSE will be   eradicated in this country within the next 15 years, without the NAIS.

  • Scrapie cannot be transmitted to humans.
The truth is that the National Animal Identification System isn't about preventing or controlling disease, it's about big corporate farms getting the government to protect them. From what? Lawsuits. If those farms can track the animals in their systems, they'll be able to protect themselves from lawsuits.

The NAIS will not protect you and it will cost you money. Besides, how many hundreds of years have we and our fathers and mothers had the God-given right to raise animals? Do you want your children to have that right, too?

Call your State Representative and demand your state draft legislation to protect you by not making this program mandatory.

Visit http://www.stopanimalid.org for more information on NAIS and to see what you can do to help try and stop it.

I live in Canada but I would hate that!I'm so an animal lover!I've been rescuing them all my life!I've had rabbits, squirrls, robins, starlings, hamsters, budgies, guinia pigs, mice, fish, dogs, cats, etc, and one day I wish to have a horse.Thats horrible. Why do we have such horrid rules! In Canada your rabbit needs to be 40 feet away from your neighbors backyard!Honestly!the rules people come up with!
