Cindy was due 12th March and after many nights sleep on stretched bed in lounge with her – she had them Wednesday 14th March. I wasn’t going to go to my quilt group but after missing the last two weeks Brent & kids kicked me out the door & they are correct Abbey & Brent do the midwifery not I. I just flap & clean up.

Cindy has 3 kittens

I need James to name this litter – (Cinders is his cat) I think it could be after Redwall But I had better check!

I am tempted to keep one seal boy as a teaser stud mmm

Caro's litter

Posted on Saturday 17 March 2007 at 07:05

I am going to try & blog here once again to keep new owners up-to-date of their progress their kittens are making. – Blogging is MUCH easier than HTML coding!!!

Caro’s kittens are growing nice & fat – photo taken this am 17/3 12 days old. Caro was out having a break so I didn’t want to disturb them by looking at bottoms to share who is who.

I need to pin Abbey down to tell me what book she wants to name this litter after.

The kittens were born 5th March 07

Burmese cats love cars!!

Posted on Friday 17 February 2006 at 10:58

When new owners pick up their kittens we do explain Burmese are inquisitive.

Our breeding queens are allowed to run free on our farmlet when in kitten or not on call. We couldn't find Caro anywhere, ah inside the car sunning herself. Her kittens are due 9th March.

MM Caro doesn't look pleased at having to wear her seat belt!

The fun begins with the kittens!

Posted on Thursday 19 January 2006 at 08:23

Briar & her kittens were moved yesterday to Kitten pen. Often the mother cat has other ideas of where her kittens are going to be raised & she moves them!

Last night kittens were behind book case, behind TV & under our bed!

This starts as kittens start to leave the nest (basket) here is a picture of the first girl kitten to venture away from litter mates-

Close up of other six kittens trying to work out if they are brave enough to jump so high out of the basket.

Kittens are 3 weeks 2 days old. All seal burmese.

Caro's tail is better today

Posted on Thursday 19 January 2006 at 07:38

It was lovely to be greeted by Caro this morning with her tail held high in the air!

It seems to be getting better already YES!!

There is something about a cat & their tail!

This photo is of Caro fetching balls. Both her & Lordy love to play fetch.

To teach a cat to fetch throw a small ball & call them back to you - lots of praise just like a dog. It took Lord one evening to learn.

Caro often meets us in the middle of the night in the hall way to play fetch. It amazes us just how long she can con us to play fetch.

A hunting we will go!

Posted on Wednesday 18 January 2006 at 01:45

Our queens are allowed outside in the mornings if not on call.

All are super hunters. Here is Briar watching her prey and keeping the mouse population under control.

This morning I found Briar eating a bird! – Thankfully it was not one of James’ baby chickens!!!

Dislocated or sprained tail

Posted on Wednesday 18 January 2006 at 01:26

Sunday around 5am I let Briar & Caro outside for their morning romp Caro woke Abbey up meowing at her window to be let in.

About 10am I noticed Caro was sore – she wouldn’t eat (not even cheese!) nor would she tolerate Briar licking her.

Caro has some how sprained her tail – the vet said it will heal by its self. Her tail may not be back to normal until after she has her kittens (due 9th march.)

The vet said the sprain is seen a lot in Labradors during duck shooting season. The dog jumps into the water & the force pushes their tail back over their back.

How this happened no one knows.

Caro calling

Posted on Tuesday 3 January 2006 at 08:36

One of the joys is a cat on heat ie calling to the Tom.

Caro is a reasonably quite caller thankfully!!!

How ever we also have Cinders calling - her kittens are only 10 weeks old and she is not ready to go back to stud even though she would like to. Cinders is alot more vocal than Caro. She may spend night in car shed in cage if she carries on at this volume.

Caro had her last litter of kittens 8th September & has had two calls since then.

Today she gets to go & visit Lordy (stud cat).

Their kittens will be due 9th March (if mating takes place today). Which will be 6 months from previous litter. I used to give 8 months between litters but the vet said it is better for a queen not to call too much. If the queen is healthy & calling it's best to put her to stud.

This will mean Briar's kittens will be 10 weeks old & in kitten pen (bathroom) Caro's kittens will start off in our room or Abbey's room for first three weeks until they want to walk about.

By the time Briar's kits are 12 weeks the urgency of a cattery will be HUGE especially since we are keeping two queens.

Off to clean out Lordy's room for his girfriend's visit. It's good company for him too & he enjoys that along with other things.

Tree House

Posted on Saturday 31 December 2005 at 08:05

Brent & James built me a tree house for my birthday.

It has open ends so it's cool in the summer & placed in his run so the southerly winds will not zoom in.

Lord loves his tree house & very quikly gave his approval with a quick mark of territory.

Birds & Cats

Posted on Saturday 31 December 2005 at 07:06

Lordy is such a placid Tom cat he wouldn't even hurt a fly let alone a bird!!

I have a new digital camera & getting used to the slow shutter speed digitals have - but as the bird just sat & chattered to Lord I had time to take the photo.

The bird flew in & out his cage playing & chattering to Lord. Lord didn't even try & get him. Sadly the bird flew into the jaws of the Mastiff! Thankfully with the comand give it Mack did let the bird go & he flew off.

Briar Rose Christmas Kitties

Posted on Wednesday 28 December 2005 at 03:25

Briar had her Christmas kitties yesterday 27th December. Seven seal Burmese kittens.

First one was born at 9.37am and last one 11.24am

Here is a picture of a very proud mum - she had had five kittens when this picture was taken

Please excuse her bedding. We use nappies for the birthing, two at a time on top of dry bed (that is what the white fluffy stuff is called) we keep the baby kittens nappy dry & continually change during the birthing.

We got three girls and we are all so thrilled as we wish to keep two girls from this litter for breeding queens.

Here is a photo of the first girl born at 9.48am I took the photo at two minutes old.

The mother cat - Briar really wants us with her. I had people coming to view the other litter of kittens plus the normal daily chores of cleaning stud room & kitten pen. All hands were on deck helping - Brent sat with Briar while I zoomed around cleaning & tidying up. Then he made breakfast while I sat with Briar & the birthing began.

Names - we usually name our kittens after a book the children are reading but this time we are having a Christmas theme especially since she was due Christmas day.

Holly & Mary are the queen names we have chosen so far (this may change as the kittens grow)

Carol for other girl

Rudolph, Comet, Prancer & Blitzen so far for the males.

Breeding cats is a wonderful hobby that all the family enjoys - tis litter is extra special as we are able to keep two queens to live with us!!! Often there is a favourite we want to keep & many tears are shed when the decision is made we can't. We enjoy hearing back from new owners on the pleasure they get from our kittens,.
