The Lady Of The House

Pocketful of Pinecones

What a delightful, refreshing book!  Pocketful of Pinecones by Karen Andreola is what I have been reading last night and this afternoon, and I must say that I think we homeschool moms need more books such as this.  It is really inspiring and has a gentle aura about it, I sure hope Mrs. Andreola considers writing a sequel!

This book is really inspiring me to get more into our nature study, and also instilling in me to desire 'the gentle art of learning' especially in these younger years.

However, as much as I am enjoying this book...I really need to get my pile of laundry folded, help my ds 5 with his handwriting and listen to him read.  Then by that time, my dishwasher will be ready to empty so that I can dirty more dishes for it while I cook a tuna casserole for dinner!

Week 5/15 Menu (Dinners)

First of all I'll say that for breakfast we always have either Kashi (healthy) cereal with banana on top, or oatmeal with peanut butter (sugar free natural) mixed in or eggs.  Lunch is always sandwiches, pasta, or quesedillas and raw veggies.  Snacks are crackers w/peanut butter or cheese or apples w/peanut butter.

Here is my dinner menu for the week of 5/15:

Monday: Chicken, Broccoli, Rice Casserole

Tuesday: Ham, Baked Taters, Green Beans

Wednesday: Leftovers

Thursday: Turkey, Mashed Taters, Carrots, and Corn

Friday: Chili, Cornbread

Saturday: Grilled Burgers, Baked Taters, Mixed Veggies

Sunday:  Roast, Taters, Carrots, Onions, Biscuits

Blog Beginnings

How fun!  My new blog, a fresh start on a 'personal journal'.  I love the idea of having a place to record my thoughts on being a wife, mother, homeschooling, my Bible reading, and daily ponderings (also known as ramblings!).    I am the mother of 5 children ages dd11, ds9, dd7, ds5, and ds2 at the time of this post.  The 2 younger of the above are homeschooled, and Lord willing, we plan to homeschool our boys for the long haul.  The 3 older children are mine from a previous marriage and therefore I afterschool them as much as I am able.  My husband has children from a previous marriage also, so between his, hers and ours...there are 9 children (though his are much older).

Now before you think our home is crazy, only *our* 2 boys live here with us full time!  And also just to add to the mixture, my mother lives here as well, though she works about 3/4 time so we do have some normalcy to our days of just a SAHM and her 2 young boys doing homeschooling.  My beloved works out of state, but does make it home most weekends.  His 2 older sons work with him, so while we may have normalcy during the week, some weekends I'll admit there are 10 people here (his boys, my 3 older kids etc).  Thank you Lord for a huge house!   And yes, sometimes it is crazy...and challenging.

~Love, Lady
