Soaker PIcs

I thought I'd post a picture of my current WIP. I figured I'd better do something useful besides surf ravelry!
I enjoy looking through all the patterns and looking at things that others have made. I wish that I could make so many of the things but I'm still such a newbie. I guess I'll just take it one step at a time.
This is the Tiny Birds Redux I mentioned in my previous post. I really like how nicely it's knitting up already. (I just finished row 17)
I love the colorway, it's very simple. It's a knitpicks wool yarn, but I can't remember the color. I'm not sure how well you can see it but it's a denim blue with a little red mixed in. I would love to find a self-striping yarn, but, I haven't had any luck locally. If you know of a place I can buy it online, please leave a comment.
Here is a closer pic, maybe you can see more of the detail. I will post another pic of it as I get more done. I can hardly wait to finish it and send it to my friend.

I guess I could share what I'm knitting right now. I am a beginner knitter, self-taught. See, we cloth diaper our littles and our newest blessing is almost 10 months old and is a very heavy wetter at night. The only thing I've found that works for us are wool soakers and fitteds. She's fine in covers and prefolds during the day though. Anyway, I've made a couple of
Punk Rock Knitter soakers, and I like the pattern. It's very easy and knit in the round. Grafting the crotch was harder to learn than the actual knitting, lol! I don't add cuffs b/c I'm HORRIBLE at picking up stitches with dpns. But, for this next soaker I am using the Tiny Birds Redux pattern. You can find that and help with your knitting questions in this group on yahoo.

It is knit up flat, which is new to me but I like it. I'm also using straights for the first time, I've only been able to knit with circs so far. Straights are a little harder on your hands and wrists so I'm not sure they will ever be my favorite needles. So far the soaker is a little smaller than I imagined and may not fit my 10 month old when I'm done. The yarn is gender neutral so I'm probably just going to give it to my friend that just gave birth to a sweet baby boy!

Crochet Soaker

Here is my latest crocheted creation from the
Dandelion Dreamers Soaker Pattern. I like this one because it is so easy to read, even a beginner can make this! I highly recommend it! For this one, I used a pretty wool from Knit Picks website. I'm anxious to try my hand at knitting one next. I've gotten this one lanolized and it's drying so I can hardly wait to use it with our swaddlebees fitteds and the flannel fitteds I have made from my Very Baby Fitted Diaper pattern.

Latest Creations

I've made a few things and thought I'd take the time to add them here. This past weekend, I purchased a Dandelion Dreamers Crochet Pattern and I had purchased the longies pattern last year sometime but hadn't made them. I started the preemie size on Saturday night and finished it up on Sunday.
I think they turned out quite cute. I used a soft yarn, but I can't remember the brand, the color is called Crayons and it is a baby yarn. I do not plan to use it as a soaker, just warm pants. I'm not fond of using wool. It's just not my thing. :)
This week, I am working on the Skooter Soaker from Dandelion Dreamers. Again, not using wool, just soft baby yarn and will pair it with tights and a cute top for church or an outing. The pattern is basically a pair of shorties with a skirt.
I have been wanting to alter my Strawberries 'n' Sunshine diaper pattern and make it with rounded wings and front panel to create a soft fitted diaper. I was aiming for a contour fitted, but decided I'd like to try one that has wings and maybe add closures to it later or use a snappi with it. I really want to try to make a cover or an AI2 with this particular pattern. I love that serged edge and that it gives the leg a little ruffle. I LOVE frilly girl things!!

Another project completed!

I'm so excited! Y'all just can't possibly imagine, when I say excited, I mean
excited like a kid! I have been trying for many months to learn knitting. I'm quite sure it's been more than a year. I never ever thought I'd be able to complete a project.
Well, I did it! I made a preemie hat. Here's the picture:

This hat was created (I'm so excited to use that term! :))using the preemie hat pattern from
Bev's Country Cottage I just left off the pom-pom. This pattern was so easy to do. I even managed the decreases without any problems. I have to say, I'm intimidated by decreases/increases,lol. but not any more! :) I'm excited to find another project to work on for the next four weeks. Thanks for looking!
