more than rubies monday

Today's post is about organizing our day and our lives.

I used to be very organized, before children. I did well after our first child, it wasn't hard to stay organized.  After the other children followed, it became more difficult and I just gave up. I did pretty well just keeping up with the house. I buy a new planner each year, but I seldom stick with it. I have high hopes going in, but frustration and guilt soon follow and I once again, give up.   I've tried many different ways to become a more organized Mom.  This year, I am using (like many other moms here I've noticed!) Create In Me A Clean Heart for my Bible Study.  I am also using the Motivated Moms Daily Planner with Bible Readings from Motivated Moms, it took me a while to decide which planner would work best for me. Considering that I have already purchased my daily planner for the year I decided to go with the full page daily chore chart that is listed first on the site.   As for my daily planner for appointments and such, I purchased The Family Organizer by Amy Knapp. I do have a very scant looking Household Organizer that I have started, it has various online print-outs in it and I'm adding my daily chore organizer to that. I need to go thru that binder again and reorganize, as it has all sorts of free patterns for knitting and crochet that I have printed out and I plan to keep those in a special section of my binder. Will we moms ever find the "perfect" planner? Well, that depends on each persons idea of perfect!  :)

- Give some general info about your family: # of kids and ages (if you feel comfortable giving that info out), # of years as a SAHM, does your husband work at home or outside the home
?

I've been married to a wonderful man for 16 years. We have six children, our oldest is 15 and the youngest one is a newborn! :)  I have been a SAHM since the birth of our first child, my dh works outside the home and is actually on full-time active duty orders for the next year.  (not on deployment orders, thankfully!)

- Do you work in or outside of the home? If so, how many hours per week and what is your schedule like?

I work from home, making  Strawberries 'n' Sunshine Cloth Diapers
I'm enjoying my Baby Moon for now but plan to start up again in January. I enjoy making diapers for others. I usually work about 20 hours a week, depending on the work load. I work during the morning hours after straightening/cleaning the house. With six kids, after lunch, my day is super busy. :)

- What helps you get through your week? Do you use a planner or "to-do" list? Are you organized or do you fly by the seat of your pants?

I *try* to use a planner or daily check list to get through my day. It helps me stay focused.
I have a blue binder that I'm using to create my Home Management Notebook. I have  sections for recipes, menus, printed patterns for knitting/crochet, calendar, etc.  I'm just getting that organized so for the most part, I've been a "fly by the seat of my pants" person. :\

- Do your children help around the house? chores? cooking? If they don't do much, do you wish they did more?

Yes, our children help but I do not have a lot of chores for them b/c the older three are in public school and their day is filled so when they come home they have homework. They did more when they were schooled at home. They unload the dishwasher, help with dishes and laundry and keep their rooms clean (most of time. :)) and help with whatever I need help with on any given afternoon.

- What do you want to do better? What area of your life is a stumbling block for you? Would you like prayer for a specific thing this week?

Sadly, my laptop has been a stumbling block. :)  For a long time I spent any free time I had here on the computer, thankfully, I don't do that anymore.  I want to strengthen my relationship with the Lord and spend more time with my kids.  My main prayer need this week,  oh goodness. Prayers for our family during the holiday season, we lost my FIL two months ago in a work related accident, it's been so hard moving on in some areas. Dh is an only child, his only sibling died nine years ago so getting his Mom settled and taking care of her has been his sole responsibility.
