Sat-10-Nov-2007 - Crafty Stuff: Samuel's Pillow
Here is a pillow I made for Samuel last week. I took an old, torn sheet and used part of that. Samuel was facinated by the sewing machine - I let him take pins from me and stick them in the pin cushion. Then he helped me stuff the pillow, mainly by tossing handfuls of stuffing into the air. By the time we were done, it looked as if it had snowed in our living room! I should have taken pictures, but it was more important that I got it vacuumed up before dinner time so all I have is the finished product. 
With the pillow, I made an honest effort to sew on the dotted line. Ack! I'm just not that good, even with a sewing machine. 
It's not as bad as it looks in the picture, though, it's just not a perfect rectangle. The pillow cases, I made "Ashley-style" - that is, I didn't pin the edges. I just rolled it over and fed it into the machine. And I think they turned out just fine, even better than the pillow, although maybe it's because they aren't stuffed that the slight imperfections don't show?
This pillowcase is birds, because Samuel is bird crazy. Yes, the birds are sideways. No, I didn't notice until I finished. Samuel will just have to deal with it!
And you can sorta see how it fits in his toddler bed. Here is the pillowcase that matches his bedding (if you can call it that) the best:
I'm rather proud of the ribbon that I matched up with the fabric and used to trim the cases. Actually, I'm proud of the whole project. I made my son a pillow! And two cases! It gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling....
.... now just to teach him how to sleep on it, LOL!

I think you did a great job on the pillow and the pillow cases. I have some fabric that matches our son's toddler bed as well...and am planning on making him a pillow case this weekend. Thanks for sharing!!!
