I decided to put together a list of stereotypes that Homeschoolers are often labeled. Some of them contradict others because people have such different opinions on what homeschooling is and means. They know so little about us, and it just makes me laugh. I know from personal experiences that one person is amazed that my mother teaches me and others are amazed that I’m happy being homeschooled. After reading through the list, comment, and let me know what different stereotypes have you be given as a Homeschooler.
Homeschoolers are unsocialized weirdos. They won’t know how to socialize with other kids.
Homeschoolers are too sheltered with Mommy and Daddy always holding their hands. Bubble-wrapped kids.
Homeschololers aren’t smart enough to go to college with a homeschool education.
Homeschoolers are society-freaks… They won’t fit into the normal flow of society and PROUD of it!
Homeschool Parents only homeschool because they are Bible-thumping, pew-jumping, hymn-singing, dress-wearing, large families.
Homeschoolers won’t be able to fit in the “real world” and will feel lost and out of place.
Homeschooling parents are abusive and keep the kids at home to hide the marks of “beatings”.
Homeschoolers only wear dresses (all the same style and colour) and pants with matching shirts.
Homeschoolers have no style or sense of fashion. The ladies are plainly dressed and wear no make-up.
Homeschoolers sew all their clothes and raise farm animals.
Homeschooling parents aren’t smart enough to “edgumicate” their own kids (haha well given they went to the Government School System I can see this be sorta true).
Homeschoolers think they’re better than everyone else.
Homeschoolers have no opportunity to be a witness to kids who do attend the Government School System.
Christian parents are hindering their children to be “lights for Jesus” by keeping them at home to school.
Homeschoolers are too dumb to attend Government School System or they have a medical problem.
Homeschoolers live out in the boondocks on a farm with a woodburning-stove, a wash-tub, and ride in a buggy.
Homeschoolers eat only organic and bake their own bread.
Homeschoolers will never be able to meet anyone to marry
Homeschoolers never leave their home… maybe once a month.
Homeschoolers don’t get a proper education and are neglected
Homeschoolers are either filthy rich or dirt poor
Homeschool fathers are oppressive and make their wives stay at home and homeschool the kids.
Homeschoolers are super-smart
Homeschooler don’t do school at all. They play all day.
Homeschoolers don’t have any fun and grow up too fast… they are well-mannered and have adult-conversations.
Homeschoolers only listen to hymns and don’t own a television.
Homeschool parents are the biggest control-freaks eva!
Homeschool parents expect too much out of their children.
Homeschooling parents take their kids with them to run errands, use the kids to get chores and farm work done, and then call it all “curriculum.”
Homeschoolers have never heard or read anything about Evolution. They all think we were creating by a loving God.
Homeschoolers are all Republicans
Homeschoolers have no idea about the public school
Homeschooling prevents the Government from watching out for the little guys and creates unsafe-environment.
Homeschoolers aren’t allowed to have friends because “they have siblings”.
Homeschoolers say they are grades ahead but really they are a grade behind.
Homeschooling families with more than 2 children are going to overpopulate and consume the earth!
Homeschoolers don’t have a choice. Their parents make them be homeschooled.
Homeschoolers miss out on important times in their lives like going to prom and remembering old boyfriends
Homeschoolers are all disorganized and out of order
Homeschoolers don’t start school until 3pm.
Homeschoolers have read all the classical novels
Homeschoolers all drive a 15passenger van
Haha, I bet most, if not all, of those made you just cackle! I didn’t add in all the Homeschooling questions because THAT is an entirely different post!
Blessings!

Anyway, thanks for the laugh! Have a blessed day in The Lord!
Being "peculiar" was what The Lord had in mind when He called us to follow Him! I like that word!
