"Never doubt in the dark what God has shown you in the light". -Michelle Terrill
Still listening to Paul Harvey.
He is recounting the work that Walmart did following the hurricane...all the food and supplies they sent out there...
Food for thought!!!
It's easy for them to be a scape-goat for our complaining.
I have noticed how much they are trying to bring in orgainic food recently...If you shop at Walmart, use your money and vote for organic, the market will respond (even if it is a few cents more expensive).

I think they have a lot of issues. but I think that they are, in general, a good business. A good AMERICAN business. I try not to buy clothes there (sweatshops being only part of the problem: the clothes don't last one kid, much less survive for hand-me-downs. rather pay twice as much and get 4x the wear....) or anything really - I try not to buy things! but I do shop there on occasion, and I love that they have those missing kids posters. I always stop and look... what if it was my kid and someone saw him in school every day and never knew he was on one of those posters, ya know?
anyway, my 2 thoughts
You've got some good points.

I can see your point. On the other hand, we have no concept here (comparatively) of a child having to dig through trash to make a little to get some food (on a regular basis day in and day out with no social services to help them at all). I don't like the thought of a child's life consisting of nothing more than working all day, but neither do I like the thought of that child (and their family) having nothing to eat and nowhere to live. There was a time in our history when children worked (with their families) quite hard everyday to put food on the table. I would need to know more about the sweat shops to know what to think (and they probably aren't all the same). Does anyone know more about them? Is there a website that has good information on them. I am just picturing myself as a kid working in a third world country thinking "hmm, so if that American doesn't buy this product because I have to work so hard to survive, then that helps me?". I would appreciate more information on it.
By the way, there are ways to help kids from impoverished nations through sponsorship programs. We do that, and there are a great number to choose from. Here are two:
Compassion International
World Vision

About Me

A non-green thumb who loves plants, and wants to know "why" about everything, likes to eat what is fresh, and is so amazed at the world God has made, and sometimes not so impressed by the things man can make, who wants to learn how to be a good care-taker of all that God has blessed us with, and be thankful and generous with it. Oh yeah, and I homeschool :)
