It's still quiet in the house this morning, Carissa is watching some preschool toons,Jason is still sleeping, Brandon is at a friends, and John is still sleeping.  So I thought I would take advantage of the quiet and post about my day.

Well since it's the weekend that means that the cleaning is cut by over half with only the daily cleaning and upkeep is needed. And that won't take long, well all but the laundry it always take a bit longer.

We went to the green house yesterday and I got more liquid fence and while there picked up some manure and compost to put around the plants today.  We are going to cultivate some of it in the soil around the plants and some just surround them at the base then give it a good water just to get all the wonderful stuff down to the roots.  LOL I never thought I would see the day when I was ok with playing in poo. LOL  When I was a kid the thought or smell of the farm would make me sick to my stomach.  Just thinking that I'm back from where I came from makes me chuckle a little.

Oh when we got home yesterday John said there's a rabbit in the garden. So I ran up the field and spontaneously threw my hands up in the air waving my arms like a wild woman growling at it.  I scared it really bad and it ran and kept bouncing off the fencing. I kept doing my wild woman act, really I don't know why because it didn't nothing but scare it. So John got a hold of it and we (he) killed it.  I was thinking of keeping it for the freezer but it's so small so we threw it away.  As we walked to the house I looked at him and teased him by saying you savage!  He replied let that be a lesson to the rest of them.

Tonight we are going to the drive in we are going tonight and watching The Transformers and The Fantastic Four, rise of the silver surfer.  So it's going to be a late night tonight.

Well I really need to end this and get my day going.

What are your plans for today?

Garden Update!

Posted in Garden Adventures

Yeah, Peppers for the first time our peppers are fairing well. If you look closely you can see a pepper one of many.

Watermelon,no melons yet but we do have some starting and the plant is just huge now about two times bigger than in this picture and it was take just a few days ago.

Watermelons,no melons yet but they are starting now and this baby is twice the size as it is right here and these pictures were taken just a few days ago.

This all that is left of our cucumbers at least we are possibly going to have a few.

Cantaloupe, tons of flowers but no melons yet but soon.

Look at how pretty those pole beans look!  I got these in the ground late so I'm please with them so far.

And lets not forget the bush beans they are doing great and they are flowering!!! Again these were planted late.

Cabbage!!!  I took this picture and then went down later and the tops of all of them were gone!

Oh what a pretty sight!  Look at those pretty tomatoes! We have a great amount of tomatoes! What a blessing!

I'm overall happy with our garden this year. We got a late start to begin with and with the drought and hot temps I do believe it's coming around nicely.  We are looking forward to a wonderful harvest this year!

Good day to you all!!! Oh I'm just loving this awesome weather we are having right now.  Sunny, not to hot, nice mild wind blowing, picture perfect!

I got the rest of the garden weeded and John and I staked the tomatoes.  I normally don't wait this long and when I got down there they were laying on the ground. OH NO!  But now they are up and tied to stakes and all is good.

Today we (the kiddos and I) got the house cleaned up. I got 5 loads of laundry washed and hung out to dry.  Made 2 loaves of bread and am about to go start dinner as soon as I get through on here. Jason and Brandon had to have one of their fighting fits today, as with any day. So I put them to work. My thinking is that if they have the time to sit and fight they must be bored so I find things for them to do.  Jason had to wash the siding and Brandon is room (disaster 101), needless to say they have gotten along great the rest of the day.

John is working days this week, I like this shift much better than the other two but they come with the job.  So there's no choice there. Oh well at least I can make sure the house looks nice and he's got something good to eat when he's home.

Well I'm going to head on out of here and get dinner on.

I hope you all have a great Monday on your homesteads!

God Bless,

Tammy

WE GOT RAIN!!!  Doing a happy dance!!!  Ok so it was not all that good,we had a tiny tornado touch down a few counties West of us and we had several trees down and some minor damage from winds and several very heavy down pours. But we are having some light rains as well. Right now it's gray and damp out something it hasnt been in some time.

Yesterday was hot and muggy but  I did get a portion of the larger veggie garden weeded before the humidity got to me to bad.  Then later Jason and I went and picked some black berries. The deer have aleady done a number on them and they are so small b/c of lack of rain but they were still delicious!  We brought them in and I washed them off and we had them with dinner last night as a treat.

I also made some more bread. I really didn't want to b/c of the heat but I had to we are completely out.  Now I should be ok for a few days anyway.

Today we are planning on putting new plug and wires on the van. LOL I have to chuckle a little right there with what I typed,We are, when it's really John is. I know very little about the working under the hood and how to fix them.  While he's doing that I may work in the garden some more if it's not raining. Oh I need to get the tomato plants staked this weekend as well.

God Bless,

Tammy

Loved Ones

Posted in Random Thoughts

Thinking back to when I was a child and all the family I had around me.  Running and playing without a care in the world. Fighting with my cousins over crazy childish things and my aunts or grandma coming to break it up.  Getting angry when I got in trouble and even being mean at times.  And as I grew into a woman, those that helped all along the way in some form or another still there for me. In my own innocent ignorance I never thought there would be a time when they would not be there.  As the years have passed many have went on to be with our father in Heaven.  I miss them terriably.  When I close my eyes I can see their faces and smiles, something I took for granted when they were still here.  Neglecting to visit with them,oh how I regret that. Oh how stupid we are when we are young!

Garden adventures:update

WOOHOOO I have tomatoes!!! Ok here's the story......

The rabbits have been giving me fits,it's been awful, the ripped off the netting I had in place, how you ask, well they got their sneaky little paws or whatever it is that they have caught in it and in their attempt to get unstuck pulled the corner back so reveal and delicious dinner right for the taking.  But first oh they had to work up a big appetite by chewing a hole in the fensing we put up all that work they ate up all of our cucumber plants.  Then started on the cantaloupe,oy! Now mind you the heat and dry conditions have already reaked havic on the soil and plants. They ignored the liquid fense that we put on it and followed the directions to a T. Still they just had to have a taste of our plants!  Oh no not just a nibble but a whole row! I can just see it now they probably had a little party right there in our garden with the cucumber plants as the main course and the cantaloupe as the appetizer,oh what fun they must have had frolicking around,to bad I had to end it!!! The following day I went down to check things out, you know how us gardeners do, and to my horror I seen the rampage on our poor helpless little plants. I stood there thinking what on earth can I do to keep these things out. Then it dawned on me..... I remember being told by someone (sorry can't remember who) to put a radio in the garden and play it all night long. So I ran to the nearest dollar store and picked up two cheap radios and a huge pack of batteries. Brought them home and put the batteries in them, tuned them in and put them in a freezer bag(water proof) then took them to the garden. I turned them on thinking well lets just see if this is true, nothing else has worked out very well for us.  The next morning I ran to the garden and what before my wondering eyes should appear!!!!  All of the plants standing alone, not a leave was disturned, not a rabbit in sight!  I dance a happy dance, and prayed with all my might! THANK YOU! So for all that read this take this to heart, if you are having the troubles we have been having (or were) don't fall apart, just get a cheap radio and sing them to sleep!!! LOL Ok so I got out of hand there... but it is true all happend like that.  The radios are working great and we are starting to see progress finally!  The watermelon plant has 7 buds on it that I noticed today and everything is tripple in size, lots of weeds though but that will be taken care of as soon as this heat passes or this weekend which ever comes first.

Muggy Wednesday

Posted in Home and family life

Good morning ya'll!  Wow it's gotten nasty out, more heat, more humid, just all around icky!  John is working nights all this week which puts my whole schedule in a tail spin but it's only a week. He came home this morning and didn't go to bed,he said the van was acting up and that he was not sure if he would make it home,Thank God he did because he didn't take the cell phone so he would have been stuck. He put it on the computer and it's an easy fix,but we have to wait until this weekend when he has more time and money to fix it. I hope he gets it done fast as I need to get to the green house to get some compost mulch to put in the garden.

I have been reading alot of blogs and I feel like I have nothing of value to share with you all.  Just my mundane day to day life that has to get boring to read, even though it's a blessing for me.  I thank those that take the time to read even if my blog is not packed full of useful tidbits for the homesteader and/or homekeeper. Thanks!

Well I have to go I do believe the washer has stopped and I have to get them hung on the lines.

God Bless,

Tammy

Not to much going on here.  John is working nights this week so of course my whole routine is flipped upside down.  This is the first time he's had to work nights so it's a huge adjustment for us all. I didn't sleep much at all last night, after all the years of having him right beside me it's hard to get use to him not being there. So I tossed and turned and kept getting up to check on things.  It's not any easier that he has to work 12 hour shifts right now,so it's like he's working and comes home sleeps and then goes back to work.  He thought they were going to go to 8 hour shifts starting this week but the big boss changed his mind, the money is good but I do miss him.

God Bless,

Tammy

Garden mishaps!

Posted in Garden Adventures

I went down to the garden and gave it a good watering yesterday morning and then went to go and check on it a few hours later.  And well I noticed that half of our cucumber plants down to the stems and weren't just a few hours later.  Some how a rabbit had gotten into the garden and ate them. So today John and I went to a green house around here that we frequent and bought some organic stuff called liquid fence it stinks something awful but they guarantee it works and also some organic fertilizer.  John and I just finished up working in there.  I watered it all down really well and praying to the Lord that all goes well and we have a good harvest.  The garden is so ,so dry as many are,I'm going to be watering it morning and evening to try to keep the roots from drying out. It's just so hot during the days and the soil dries out so quickly. If this works as well as they say it does then next season we will start out using this stuff.  Time will tell!

I am thankful for......

Posted in Random Thoughts

my Lord Jesus Christ for my salvation

my husband for being a rock I can depend on

my children for being such a blessing in my life

my parents for setting forth a firm Christian foundation of which to live my life

the sun for warming the earth

the cool breeze on a hot summer day

the birds that sing their praises to our savior each morning

the harvest that comes after patiently working the feilds

that I am open and willing to learn with the guidance of the Lord

the morning dew that kisses the flowers

that little bit of quiet time I get each morning to be with the Lord before my day starts

never feeling alone even if I am alone

my church family

all the simple things that may go unseen but touch me so,like the kiss I get each morning from my loving husband, the hugs I get as my daughter wakes up with a smile on her face saying "Good morning Mommy",that my sons still hug me and tell me they love and good night each night, that my grandmother still calls to talk with me,that I know I am blessed beyond belief even though it may not be in money or possessions it's in roots and love. God is good and I love him so very dearly and couldn't even begin to imagine my life without him in it.

God Bless,

Tammy
