Blogger Friend School #9

Part A: Share at least 3 “Bountiful Blessings” that the Lord has abundantly provided.
My Husband, my children and the land we live on!
Part B: Share your Thanksgiving Feast {past or present} You may use Photos, menus, recipes, activities, traditions…Be creative! –”Who carves the turky?”, “Do you save the wishbone?”, “What do you serve for dessert?”, “Who hosts the Thanksgiving dinner in your family” ….my favorite…”What do you do with all those leftovers?”
I love Thanksgiving and always have. As a kid my family and I used to drive from Waukegan Il, to Indiana to go to my Aunts house. There we would always watch The Wizard of Oz while the meal was being prepared by all the mom's. I remember sitting in the front room bundled up in a blanket watching the tv with all my cousins and smelling all the wonderful smells that Thanksgiving dinner would bring. Mmm Then as I got older and married I was never around 'family' anymore, so Thanksgiving got a bit, well, small. I even got to the point where I wasn't even making a Thanksgiving meal. Well, now that I have children we are trying to build traditions of our own cause we are still away from our family and the family we are near, well, we are the blacksheep here. So what we have started as traditions I hope my children will carry on are.... making a Turkey dinner with all the fixins and all the wonderful desserts even if it just them and their spouse. I want them to celebrate all the blessings the Lord has givin them. So this year for Thanksgiving we will have a complete dinner with dessert, give thanks for our MANY blessings and we are going to start a "I am thankful for" table cloth. We have purchased some fall colored materials and we are going sew patches together and each of us will write what we are most thankful for this year in one of the squares and then each year we will add to it. Each of the children will then have one made for their hope/treasure chests.
I am the one that carves the Turkey. (Thank you Daddy for teaching me) Dad was the one who always cut it in our family but before I married and moved out he was sure to show me his secret for getting every speck of turkey off the bone and what to do if there were left overs.
Well both times I have been married I was the one who knew how to carve it so I guess it has become my job. I am teaching the children as they grow so they too will know all of PaPa's secrets.
We have also carried on the tradition of watching Wizard of Oz so it is like we are home with my family again. We also like to read "The first Thanksgiving" and ya know, the kids are almost to a point where they can act out the story without reading it.
I pray we can come up with a few more traditions that my children will carry on but for now I am thankful that I have 'family', my family to share Thanksgiving with.
Part C: Post a Scripture that reminds you of your blessings!
1 Chronicles 16:8 Give thanks to the Lord, call on his name, make known among the nations what he has done.
I pray you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving and that the Lord richly blesses you, each and every one!!
* Share a Blessing!

I like your tradition that you've carried on of watching The Wizard of Oz. I'm the carver in my family, too - I was the oldest kid in the family & my hubby was the youngest. So I learned these skills, but he managed to avoid it!
Have a happy Thanksgiving!

It sounds like you are starting some wonderful traditions of your own. Growing up many times it was just my sister and me, no other young kids and holidays felt small and lonely. Now I have five kids and I doubt I will ever feel that again!

I enjoyed reading about your traditions and memories. My little ones discovered The Wizard of Oz this fall. It is a true classic.
