Plums.....

Wow it is hard to believe how many plums we have picked off that plum tree this year.. That poor thing has really produced more than its share.. I am so thankful for it. We have ate plums, given away plums, canned 34 quarts of plum jam, and now we are canning plums like you would peaches. My children love them that way and well we have the plums so this is  a good way to put them up for the winter time. So far today we have canned 5 quarts of the wonder fruits. I still have more to get done up today.. Plus I will have more to can tomorrow and the next day.. My goal is to can at least 34 quarts of plum slices.. we will use these in homemade fruit cotail, or just to eat them all by themselves.. Or even in pies...

So far this year we have canned

5 quarts dill pickles

1 pint dill pickles

1 quart peaces

34 quarts plum jam

6 pints mixed greens

26 jars of assortated jams and jellies

We have frozen

okra

zuccini

squash

peas

green beans

I am praying that the garden will keep produceing so that we can freeze more items. I am going to have to go and buy a new chest freezer when our tax check comes in. Ours died and well with the garden and all i really need a small freezer to store some of our stuff in. I dont need a large one as we just dont freeze that much. Most of our items we can...

And that brings me to another area. I have got to find more canning jars.. I am finding that with all my canning so far the jars i had are really disappering quickly.. NOT good.. so when i am able to go out i am going to be looking in the thrift stores and at yard sales for jars.. All sizes.. There is still lots of food to can and lots of jars that will be needed..

Another area i have got to work on is my pantry.. I wanted to do this before i got sick but now i have came to a place where i know i have got to get this done.. I need to figure out a better storage system. I have got to get some shelves or at least more shelves up.. I will have lots of items to store in there and well right now i just do not have the place for them..

I have started a note book of things that need to be done and the ideas  i have to get them done up and looking nicely..

I figure this is  a good time to get some things done since i can not do much right now other than stay home. So what better time than this to work on something around here. And that is what i am going to do ..

Well it is off to do some more canning. Boy am I going to sleep tonight.

god bless

Hey Glenda, did you do anything to get your plum trees to produce? Several years ago I had a great yield of plums from our tree and hardly any since then. I'm glad to hear of all the good things you are getting to put up.

Honestly we did nothing different this year than last except for the fact that I prayed for days for that tree.. I laugh now because The Lord showed me sometimes we might want to be careful what we pray for... I am thrilled we are getting so many plums and honestly i do pray that we get a good crop every year but wow this year it has been amazing... God does have a sense of humor... HE has showed me that over the past few months..
god bless

2008-Jul-1 - canning jars

Posted by Handmaiden

A number of years ago, I too needed a lot more jars. I put an ad in the local paper and I got dozens of calls from people either selling them for a very low price or just giving them away. Best wishes this canning season. Glad to read that you are starting to feel a little better. Our prayers are with you.
